Veterinary Ophthalmology
Glaucoma is an elevation of pressure in the eye. People and animals are very different when it comes to glaucoma. In humans the disease is usually progressive and can lead to blindness but comes on gradually. Animals have a different type of glaucoma which if left untreated for even a short amount of time can lead to severe pain and blindness. We use the Medtronic Tono-Pen, the same instrument used by human ophthalmologists to check your pets pressure. So if your pet displays symptoms such as sensitivity to light, has a dilated pupil, or blood shot eyes call our office immediately for an appointment

Behavioral Disorder Treatment
Otherwise known as a 4 in 1 the Canine Distemper vaccine is a combination vaccination. It includes Distemper virus, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. Distemper is a widespread virus that causes high mortality in dogs, it infects various tissues producing diarrhea, fever, nasal and ocular discharge, respiratory disease, and neurologic signs. It is transmitted via blood, urine, and saliva. Adenovirus causes hepatitis or liver disease. It is shed through urine and can survive outside the host for weeks or months. Parainfluenza causes respiratory signs that can lead to pneumonia and possible death. It is spread through respiratory secretions. Parvovirus causes severe diarrhea and can be fatal due to severe dehydration. Parvovirus is transmitted through contact with infected feces and is highly contagious. We recommend vaccinating for Canine Distemper initially at 8 weeks of age. Your pet will then receive a booster vaccination at 12 and 16 weeks of age. The first time your pet receives the distemper vaccine, immunization is current for 1 year.Subsequent Canine Distemper vaccines are then protective for 3 years.

Animals don't feel pain like people do is a myth!! Veterinary patients fell pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. However symptoms of pain in animals are not as obvious as one would think. Remember in the wild, the animals that show symptoms of pain or weakness do not survive. Infection Treatment

Leptospirosis Treatment
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection resulting from the contact with the urine of infected wildlife or contaminated food or water. The leptospira bacteria infects the kidneys and liver. The disease has a very high mortality rate even with aggressive treatment. It is also important to note that Leptospirosis can also be transmitted to people. Many breeders try to discourage owners from vaccinating against Leptospirosis. Unfortunately many reasons that are given for not vaccinating for this very real and dangerous disease are not based on science. We recommend vaccinating for Leptospirosis initially at 8 weeks of age. Your pet will then receive a booster vaccination 4 weeks later. The Leptospirosis vaccine is then given once yearly.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
FVRCP is a combination vaccine. It includes Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia. Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus cause similar diseases resulting in nasal and ocular discharge, conjunctivitis, and sneezing. Once infected cats remain infected throughout their lifetime. Panleukopenia is similar to canine parvovirus and is often fatal. Symptoms include fever, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. We recommend vaccinating against FVRCP initially at 8 weeks of age with a booster 4 weeks later. The first time your pet receives the FVRCP vaccine, immunization is current for 1 year. Subsequent FVRCP vaccinations are given every 3 years.
Feline Retro Virus Treatment
Feline Leukemia is a high mortality disease caused by the feline leukemia virus. Feline Leukemia produces immunosuppression, which can then lead to other diseases or infections such as respiratory or gastrointestinal diseases. Cats that survive these initial diseases may develop some form of cancer. The disease is transmitted by direct contact with infected cats. For pets that are going outside we recommend vaccination for Leukemia at 8 weeks of age and then a booster 4 weeks later. Leukemia vaccination is then repeated on a yearly basis.
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Ear Infection Treatment
Sometimes patients with severe or chronic ear infections need more help than can be given using conventional cleaning and medication. For difficult outer and middle ear infections we use the MedRx Earigator and video otoscope. With the video otoscope we can get up close images of deep inside the ear canal to diagnose problems that are impossible to see from regular otic examination. With the Earigator we can completely remove debris from the ear canal and place medication directly in the middle ear canal.

Chronic Condition Treatment

Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Lyme disease is a bacterial disease transmitted via a tick bite. The most common symptoms of Lyme disease include fever, lethargy, and joint pain. Lyme disease can also cause other serious conditions such as kidney failure. If your pet travels to or spends time in areas where there are ticks we highly recommend this vaccination. This vaccine is given once yearly after the initial series. The initial series of vaccination consists of one vaccine and then a booster 4 weeks later.
Heart Disease Treatment
All patients are carefully examined for safety and anesthetic protocols are specifically tailored to your pet. Our surgical facilities include heated surgery table for greater comfort and safety, IV fluid warmers, ECG, continuous blood pressure, CO2, temperature and oxygen saturation monitors.
Kidney Disease Treatment

Wound and Fracture Care
Rabies is a viral disease that can affect all warmblooded mammals, including dogs, cats, wildlife, and humans. The virus infects cells of the nervous system producing incoordination and behavioral abnormalities. Once the signs of rabies appear, the disease is always fatal. Rabies is usually transmitted by bite wounds. Rabies vaccination for your cat is required by New York state law. This vaccination is given at 4 months of age. The initial vaccination provides immunization for 1 year. Subsequent rabies vaccinations provide immunization for 1 years. We use the PUREVAX Rabies vaccine which is the safest feline Rabies vaccine available
