We needed transmission repair for our Acura. We shopped for the most reliable transmission shop we could find. After researching the internet, and reviewing the great customer comments, as well as an A rating from the BBB we decided to have our work done at Clarkston Transmission and Auto Repair. The owner was extremely helpful and even showed us parts and what they had to replace. They were very courteous. I would recommend them for all your transmission repairs.

I was referred to Clarkston Transmissions by Belle Tire because my 07 Dodge Caliber's check engine light was on and was having gear shift issues. When I got there, one of the mechanics test drove my car with me in the passenger seat, which I thought was very kind. He almost instantly was able to tell that it was an electrical problem. We got back to the shop and I made the decision to leave my car with them so they could hopefully fix it, which they did. Had it done before the end of that day. My car has been running fine ever since. Jodie at the front desk also informed me of a few less major issues with my car and where I could go to fix them. The people of Clarkston Transmissions are friendly and definitely know what they are doing.

Very thorough prompt service, went above and beyond to accommodate my needs as I took them a customized high performance vehicle. They worked it into there schedule to keep my truck indoors after hours for extra security while they did repairs and performance upgrades to the transmission. Will gladly recommend them to others and take any future work to them for there A+ service.

Worst service/communication ever! A ten year old vehicle was taken in for estimate on transmission repair. Written estimate was not give (state law anything over $20 needs written estimate). Verbal quote of $2810 given with recommendations of after market upgrades. I asked for just the necessary repairs to have the car back on the road and shifting properly. Owner unwilling to take a second look at estimate. The car was there for seven days with no review of quote. It took the help of an attorney and local police to have the car returned to owner with transmission in pieces. Highest prices in Town.

Belle Tire in Waterford recommended this shop for 4 wheel drive work. Took in my 2006 Trailblazer with a 4wd light and 4wd not working. It also needed scheduled service like trans oil and filters and replace lube in differentials and transfer case. The fault turned out to be a difficult to troublehoot wiring harness problem, but the mechanics refused to mindlessly replace parts and took the time to fix the problem. Although there was a bit more labor charged because of the troubleshooting time, there were no expensive driveline electronic parts, which are not returnable if they don't turn out to be the problem. All the other work was done at highly competitive prices, lower than several other shops quoted.

I highly recommend this shop. As a retired auto engineer, I'm always happy to find an honest and knowledgable service shop and will recommend Clarkston Transmissions to my friends and family.

Excellent Service

Took my 2006 Chevy Truck in because I was having some shifting problems. When I arrived, I was greeted in a courteous and friendly manner by Marv the manager. I explained the frustrating problem I was having and he understood the symptoms right away. He grabbed his scanner and we went for a test drive. To my suprise, I was able to see on the scanner exactly what my problem was. It was a shift solenoid problem. I had stopped at a couple other area shops and they just wanted me to drop my truck off and call me later. Instead I was given an estimate before I even left the driveway. I was expecting to have to repair the transmission for around $2000 but instead I had my problem fixed for around $500. I appreciated the honesty which is hard to come by these days especially when you're a woman and they even picked me up when my truck was done. I would recommend these guys to anyone who is looking to have their truck (car) repaired. They did good work at a fair price!

We were very satisfied there. ...

We were very satisfied there. It's family owned and has been in business for over a decade. Those things factored into us deciding to take my daughters car there for an inspection... and then we would go from there to decide if we wanted to have the repairs done with them. We had not been too happy with past service with major chain auto repair shops.

We brought the car in that evening on a Wednesday. We were met by a very cheerful and friendly group. They listened and took notes of the problems that my daughter was having with her car. Her trans had been slipping, along with several other issues that we were aware of. A thorough inspection was done that day and by morning we had a run down of the repairs that were needed. Privately, our family had a budget to work with and we were not sure that we could have everything repaired at once. Marv sat down with us and broke down each individual repair, with price print-outs of each repair scenerio, and gave us absolutely the best price around. It was surprisingly affordable, so we chose to have all of the repairs done at that time. The labor fees that were saved too in having it all done at once while they were in there or even separately, could not be beat! They had the car on the hoist and we were taken into the bay and the areas of needed repairs were pointed out. I took notice of how professional the mechanics were and how focused they were on the repairs that they were performing on another vehicle. (I've been other places where the mechanics seemed to be doing a whole lot of nothing or dinking around.) On my daughter's car, all of our questions were answered. We weren't rushed. My daughter is a young woman who tends to ask a ton of questions, some redundant for clarification... and it is her car -they had no problem with that. They were respectful and patient. I've been in OTHER shops where I've been met with the attitude that my business or satisfaction was not important to their livelihood, that they were in no hurry to get my car back to me, and were not clear enough on what was wrong with my car or how those repairs worked in conjunction with other parts on the car- bottom line was they just wanted the money and weren't concerned with the inconvenience of not having a car in the meantime. At Clarkston Transmission, I felt that they really worked with us- they put this protective mother at ease, that they actually cared if we were happy with the repairs, and that they had the repairs done in a timely manner so that my daughter had her car back in time for class that Monday. They gave us a two day timeline. It was done when they promised. They kept in contact with us, we weren't put in the position of having to keep calling to find out what the heck the progress was. Then we picked it up for a test drive..... The car drives better than ever. We were actually happy to pay that bill! They care about their reputation and being honest, they care about being fairly priced, they care about the customer. The length and scope of the warranty also beat out any other place too. This was the first time that our family took a car in where we didn't leave the car wondering if we chose the right place. It's a surprising change to actually be able to leave a positive review for a repair business and have a completly positive experience.

A 2500 dollar job wrecked my car and it cost me another $750 to fix a botched job. All I can say is, if you want to be conned, take your car here. SHAME ON YOU, someday your repair jobs, so to speak, will catch up to you. I have contacted the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU.

This is the same car that was posted about by naylorjea.(2006 Saturn ION) We take pride in the work that we perform for our customers and always give a thorough, honest, and quality transmission repair. We have very few complaints and make every effort to stand behind the work we perform. We offer an industry leading warranty of 2 years and 24,000 miles on transmission repairs. There is no mention of a transmission issue. The customers car was not wrecked and only had a minor ignition switch problem that has been a known problem by GM for some time. We have thousands of satisfied customers and we know that we can't please everyone but we will continue to make every effort to address their needs accordingly.

Take it anywhere but Clarkston...

Take it anywhere but Clarkston Transmission. Recently my father had his transmission rebuilt here. A 24 hour job turned into 3 full days. Picked up the car all seemed fine on his way home from work the car died for no reason. It seems there was a loose wire. Today, mind you he has only had the car back for 5 days, the key is stuck in the ignition and will not turn the car off. Apparently this family owned business is not as knowledgable as one might think. When they put the transmission back in the car they caused all the electrical problems. We will see what assinine excuse they give me tomorrow for I have already talked to a highly qualified AC certified mechanic who said this was without a doubt caused by careless transmission work. One question I do have is why the mechanic at clarkston transmission would think that taking the car for a test drive parking on an incline and then trying to remove the key would work. Hello can you say PARK NEUTRAL SAFTEY SWITCH or possibly SHIFT LINKAGE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!

claimed iconBusiness Response03/27/2012

Every customer who comes in for a repair on their transmission is told that the work will take 2-3 days to complete. The car was dropped off on March 5 and the repairs were completed on March 8. The customer notified us on March 16 at 5:00 pm that he was bringing his car back and that he couldn't get his key out of ignition. Upon arrival we immediately checked via scanner to verify that the neutral safety switch was working properly. We next verified that linkage was adjusted properly and would hold park. We verified all electrical connections and everything checked out. We ran a search online for a key stuck in ignition for 2006 Saturn ION. We found that there were numerous complaints for this problem and that GM has not yet issued a recall. http://www.carcomplaints.com/Saturn/Ion/2006/accessories-interior/key_stuck_in_ignition.shtml Referred customer to dealership to get added to potential recall list.

When you want it Right

I began using Clarkston after failed attempts from other shops. They are straight foreword. adjust when possible or rebuild when necessary. Gave me a reasonable price on all work provided. Owning a small business and servicing 5 trucks it important to have a shop thats trustworthy and honest. I have recommended them to family and friends.

Excellent Service & Trustworthy

I called Clarkston Transmission when I thought it had gone finally. They could have easily lied to me, but were honest and told me it was the Drive Axle. Now what I thought was my transmission going seems to have mainly been from that instead and I got away with only spending about a third of what a transmission would have cost.

I will definitely go to them again and recommend them at everyone.

A job well done

I had my transmission repaired in Aug 08 and Clarkston Transmission did a great job. They have asked me to come in 1 week after the repair to ensure it was a quality repair. Since then they have been friendly and answered any questions I brought to them about my car.

Thanks Again.

UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. THEY INSISTED THAT I LEAVE MY VEHICLE ON THE SATURDAY I TOOK IT THERE AND THEY WOULD HAVE SOME NEWS FOR ME ON MONDAY AROUND LUNCH. THEY ASSURED ME THAT TO CHECK IT OUT WOULD NOT COST ME ANYTHING AND THE GUY THAT TEST DROVE IT CAME BACK AND SAID MY TORK CONVERTER WAS NOT LOCKING IN.

MONDAY CAME AND AFTER I TOOK LUNCH AND DID NOT HEAR FROM THEM I DECIDED TO GIVE THEM A CALL. HE TOLD ME THAT THE PROJECT BEFORE MINE WAS TAKING LONGER THAT PLANNED AND THAT HE WANTED TO GET MY PERMISSION TO DROP THE TRANS AND HE WOULD GET BACK WITH ME ON TUESDAY BY THIS TIME. AGAINTS MY WILL I GAVE THEM PERMISSION GIVING THEM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. TUESDAY'S LUNCH CAME AND WENT SO I CALLED AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN I WAS GIVEN THE SAME STORY ABOUT THE VEHICLE BEFORE MINE WAS TAKING LONGER THAT EXPECTED. I TOLD HIM THAT I NEEDED TO GET SOME ANSWERS BECAUSE I HAD BORROWED A CAR. HE TOLD ME TO TELL THE PERSON THAT I WOULD NEED IT ALL WEEK AND THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE ANSWERS FOR ME BY THE END OF THAT WORKING DAY. I CALLED MY PARENTS AND TOLD THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE GOING TO PICK UP THE CAR. WHEN THEY PICKED UP THE CAR THEY CHARGED THEM $37.50. FOR WHAT STORAGE FEES. THEY SAID IT WOULD NOT COST ANYTHING TO CHECK IT OUT.

I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER PLACE LOCATED IN WALLED LAKE AND DROPPED IT OFF THE SAME DAY MY PARENTS PICKED IT UP. BEFORE I WAS EVEN HOME THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION CHECKED OUT GOOD ON HIS COMPUTER AND THAT HE THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE MY FUEL FILTER. HE REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER THE NEXT DAY AND CALLED ME TO PICK UP MY CAR. THEY WERE PROMPT.
