Vitiligo is a skin condition resulting from loss of pigment which produces white patches. Any part of the body may be affected. Usually both sides of the body are affected. Common areas of involvement are the face, lips, hands, arms, legs, and genital areas. Vitiligo affects one or two of every 100 people. About half the people who develop it do so before the age of 20; about one–fifth have a family member with this condition. It may be an autoimmune process (the body makes antibodies to its own pigment cells). Most people with vitiligo are in good general health, although vitiligo may occur with other autoimmune diseases such as thyroid disease.

Cassie Basak is a board certified Physician Assistant who graduated from Dominican University in River Forest, IL with a Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Biomedical Engineering at The University of Iowa. As a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, she is working to complete the SDPA Diplomat Fellowship. Cassie joined Fine Skin in February, 2019. FDA approved medical aesthetic laser treatment used to address skin rejuvenation, acne, rosacea, melasma, nail fungus, and more. Using 650 microsecond technology, a high energy pulse is delivered into both the epidermis and deeper dermis. Little to no discomfort is felt during the procedure because 650 microseconds is below the thermal relaxation time of the skin, therefore the skin has time to cool itself unlike long pulse lasers that may cause heat to build up and cause discomfort. No downtime is experienced, you may return to your regular activities and makeup regimen the next day.
