Overall
Ricardo Barros Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is an asset to early childhood development!

In a society where parents have enough issues raising their children, it's refreshing to know there's a place that is the perfect answer.

I have two boys, 3 and 6. Both have tons of energy and if not contained can cause a lot of stress for our family in general.

Most don't understand what Jiu Jitsu is really about. It's a self defense discipline that helps the smaller opponent protect them self from a much larger opponent.

At Ricardo Barros BJJ, these skills are driven home during each class. Ricardo Barros, his family, and instructors are dedicated to growth and development. Self confidence, self respect, and respect for others are values that are instilled in every student to name a few.

Both my boys love RBBJJ's academy and we are devoted to our new family. My wife and I always feel welcome while we watch our children develop.

Thank you RBBJJ!

Overall
Best Jiu Jitsu School Around!!!!!

Ricardo Barros Jiu Jitsu school is the most wonderful place to train. Its clean (very important for mats) very family orientated and my son LOVES it. What I think is the best part is they make you feel like your one of the family the minute you walk in, the kids and teenagers and adults r all respectful and seriously good peer training. The adults work with the teenagers and not just to win but they help the lower belts by teaching them as they spar with them. I think that is very important because the kids class is the same. Also you really don't need private lessons like I had to pay (an outrageous price at the other school my son was attending). Ricardo is out on the mat teaching and actually rolling with the kids teaching strategy and skills WITH him personally. I highly recommend this school because they are not only enjoying what they do but they are there to teach the art of Jiu Jitsu and not out to make only the money involved. And what other local Jiu Jitsu black belt has been invited by a major MMA fighter to teach him his Jiu Jitsu skills?

Overall
An Academy for the Whole Family

Our family has been attending the academy since the beginning of the year. Ricardo and his instructors have an excellent attitude with the kids. They know how to make my children feel like a part of the jiu-jitsu family as well as pulling the best out of them during the challenging training sessions. Ricardo was recently awarded a plaque for his commitment to the education of children, and it is well deserved. Even my six year old is learning both important jiu-jitsu skills as well as important life skills.

As for his adult training, it has been incredibly demanding and personally rewarding to train multiple times a week. It is very humbling for me as a white belt to train with the higher ranked colored belts, but there is an atmosphere of camaraderie that keeps me coming back to learn from everyone. Ricardo's expertise and instructional style is very effective. He takes his time and explains every detail, receives questions, and with up to nine training sessions available each week, there is plenty of opportunity for practice.

The academy is extremely clean, and attention is given every session to prevent both injury during training or illness being spread through close personal contact while training and sparring. Not only does the academy have jiu-jitsu mats, but also a boxing ring, punching bags, and sparring equipment to practice striking. In fact, I'm hoping to add the boxing class to my weekly training soon.

At first, the price was a bit daunting, since four people in our family are training, but they have discounts for additional family members, and after training for five months, the money has been well invested, especially for my own health and fitness.

If you are looking for a jiu-jitsu academy in the East Bay Area, I would highly recommend stopping by and talking to Ricardo, and giving the training a try. I'm sure in no time at all you'll as much a part of the "family" as we do.
