The radiology team specializes in computed technology (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, ultrasound and nuclear medicine. All specialty areas are accredited by the American College of Radiology.
MRI
During the MRI examination, the patient is placed within the MR system or "scanner." The powerful, constant magnetic field aligns a tiny fraction of subatomic particles called protons that are present in most of the body's tissues. Radio-frequency energy is applied to cause these protons to produce signals that are picked by a receiver within the scanner. The signals are specially characterized using the rapidly changing, local magnetic field and computer-processed to produce images of the body part of interest.

Computed Tomography
Calcium scoring, also called a heart CT scan, is a painless, non-invasive way of obtaining information about your coronary arteries. This screening provides pictures of your heart's arteries and identifies if calcium deposits are present – which helps determine if you have a higher risk of having a heart attack or other potential symptoms of heart disease. Interventional Radiology
From its inception to 2000, the hospital was operated by Bolivar County. In 2000, Province Healthcare acquired the hospital, and in 2004, LifePoint Health acquired all Province hospitals. The financial strength allowed for facility and equipment upgrades, including a new MRI machine, CT scanner with low-dose radiation software, and an interventional radiology room.

Bolivar Medical Center announced that Susan Austin, MD, has joined the team and is taking new patients at Cleveland Orthopedic Clinic. She will be offering orthopedic and surgical services to patients throughout the Mississippi Delta.

Austin graduated from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Services in Memphis. She completed her residency in Orthopedic Surgery with the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences at the Campbell Clinic. She completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics and Spinal Disorders at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Austin has been awarded the “Castleton Connolly Top Doctors” award and recognized as a “Fifty Women Who Make A Difference” in the Memphis area.
