Founded in 1990, Southern Nuclear is a subsidiary of Southern Company, which is one of the largest generators of electricity in the United States and serves the regulated and competitive markets. The nuclear company is a licensed operator of nuclear generating plants in Alabama and Georgia. It has developed various waste minimization and pollution prevention plans. Southern Nuclear operates Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, which generates more than 880 megawatts of power and is owned by Alabama Power. The company also handles Alvin W.
