The History of Cafe on Main The desire to own a restaurant all began in 1968 when Billy sold food around Fort McClellan in a bus called "The Old Gray Mare". This job helped pay for college, and support us as we struggled as a very young married couple, living among friends surviving basically the same. Approximately 5-1/2 years later Billy received his degree in Business, and me with a PHT (put hubby through). Not being a risk taker, Billy has to think long and hard about most decisions. Being the opposites we are, when the opportunity came along (32 years later), I pushed him over the cliff, and told him we were buying a deli in Trussville, and the commitment was made the next day. "Opening Day" - Saturday, August 12, 2000. We served breakfast at 6: 00 a.m., and lunch at 11: 00. Didn't have a clue about the restaurant business. By Wednesday, we were so exhausted that breakfast was out of the question. With the help of family and friends, we survived! We have been blessed in many ways, and are thankful for our accomplishments and success. There are too many to personally name, but you know who you are, and we thank you for your love, support, and care. Thank you for the many hours of volunteer work you gave to help us succeed. It worked! Cafe on Main is located in the heart of the downtown area of Trussville, Alabama. Our second cafe is located on Hwy 75 as you enter Oneonta, Alabama. Click on to the map for directions. Our daughters, Leah and Anna, both graduated from college with degree's that will benefit the family business. We are excited that they are helping grow our business and make your experience with Cafe on Main more enjoyable. "Special" thanks to our parents - My Dad, Leon Wilson for frying the best chicken you will ever eat. He is no longer with us, but the memory of his advise is never ending! Billy's Mother - Inez Scharf Wright, for helping in the kitchen, and the love in her heart to always cook for her family. She is unable to cook now, but we have many memories of her fine "down home" meals. My Mother - Jessie Wilson, for leaving with me with so many memories of the kitchen. She loved to make bread, which I have never mastered. Correctness, and nutrition was of great importance to her, and I too, have followed her in many ways. I miss her so, but inherited her love of a good meal, prepared from the freshest, quality ingredients. Now, you know a little , let us hear about you.
