St Joseph Catholic Church

My son was baptized here. I used to attend here all the time, but unfortunately I had to move. Every time I return to Toledo to visit family, I make sure and attend mass here again. A wonderful church, with the beautiful Latin Mass that the church is finally coming back to.

St Joseph Parish in the Historic Vistula District of Toledo offers traditional Catholic worship in Toledo, celebrating the Latin Tridentine Rite Sunday mornings at 10:30, following a Novus Ordo Rite at 9:00. The theology of the pastoral staff has traditionally been conservative but brilliant, and you will be very well instructed during Homilies. The church has a venerable Men's Schola Cantorum, which serves the parish well, delivering the chants and anthems quite nicely, although more strength in numbers might be desired. The organ is, sadly, a sub par instrument, a wheezy and disagreeable sounding organ, totally unacceptable for use in any respectable Roman Catholic Church, no matter who plays it. Better results could be had from a Hohner harmonica in capable hands. (If an organ "concert-spirituel" is what you enjoy, you'll probably be better off elsewhere.) The interior of the church is nicely done, with lovely DaPrado Marble Altars and altar rail; it is slightly less "fussy" in decor than many other RCC structures, while still establishing the proper ambience for reverent worship. The young men and deacons who assist at the altar are superbly trained and efficient, and they remain the envy of all other Catholic Churches. The congregation is truly made up of the "salt of the earth", and they seem to take worship and faith as the singularly most important aspect of their lives (as they should). Definitely not a Laodesian faith communuity (see the Apochalypse). You will find St Joseph Parish to be a catalyst that will establish you in a closer walk with your Creator. God bless.
