Oral Cancer Screening
At each of your checkups and cleanings, we’ll also conduct an oral cancer screenings. These only take about five minutes, but for some patients, they can be life-saving. Dr. Mooney will thoroughly examine your oral cavity, throat, and lips for any signs of the disease, like red and white patches in your mouth. If we spot anything that’s out-of-the-ordinary, we’ll refer you for additional testing to make sure that you get the care you need.

Teeth Cleaning
Always friendly and cheerful, Joslin loves interacting with her patients and helping them improve their oral health one gentle cleaning at a time. A graduate of Utah Valley University, she has a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene and is also certified in CPR. She is originally from Sandy, Utah and moved to San Antonio with her husband so he could go to dental school. Joslin used to be a fitness instructor and likes to stay active when she’s not at the office, so you’ll often find her hiking, boating, and working out.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral produced by rocks that your body uses to strengthen your tooth enamel, which is the outermost layer that protects your teeth from cavities. If you or your child don’t receive enough of it via tap water, fresh fruits and vegetables, or oral hygiene products, it could put you at a higher risk of decay. To help, we offer fluoride treatments. They’re fast, easy, and can be done at the end of your checkup and cleaning appointment.
Dental Sealants
If you or your child has deep grooves and pits in your molars that effectively grab onto and collect food debris and plaque, you may find yourself getting cavities, even if you brush and floss. To stop decay from forming and make brushing and flossing your teeth more effective, we offer dental sealants. These are clear shields that we brush over the biting surface of your molars to keep debris from building up on them. The process is short and completely painless, so you won’t need to sit in the treatment chair for any longer than necessary.

Fillings
Resin Composite
If you have mild or moderate dental damage, like a chipped or broken tooth, direct bonding is a convenient, fast, and cost-effective treatment option to address the issue. Using a custom-shaded composite resin, Dr. Mooney will sculpt the missing portion of your tooth and restore the complete appearance of your smile. The resin looks like natural tooth enamel, so it won’t look like your smile has ever been damaged by the time this treatment is complete!
Veneers
For our patients who have several different types of smile imperfections they want to address, such as severe discoloration, damaged teeth, or even slight misalignment, porcelain veneers are a convenient, one-stop-shop treatment. These are individually made for each tooth that you’d like to repair, so you can address minor or more severe flaws with them. The veneers are crafted to fit over the visible surface of your teeth, so once they’re placed, they’ll reveal a symmetrical, beautiful, and bright smile.
Crowns
Dental insurance usually categorizes dental services as preventive, restorative, and cosmetic. Preventive services such as checkups are often fully covered. Restorative services like fillings and crowns typically receive around 50% to 80% coverage. Cosmetic services will likely not be covered at all unless they’re shown to have some kind of health benefit. Given these rates, your best strategy for getting the most out of your plan is usually just to attend two checkups and cleanings each year.
Bridges
If you’re missing one or more consecutive teeth, you may benefit the most from a dental bridge. This prosthetic is comprised of two dental crowns that are placed on either side of free-standing replacement teeth, called pontics. The crowns are attached to your natural teeth to anchor the bridge in place and close the gap between your teeth, making it easier to chew food and speak. With the proper maintenance, these prosthetics should last over a decade.
Dental Bonding
The answer will vary from case to case. A smaller gap can easily be hidden with porcelain veneers or even dental bonding, but if the uneven spacing is part of a serious orthodontic issue, clear braces or Invisalign might be required. We can give a more definite answer once we’ve had a chance to examine your mouth.
Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
Many of our patients panic when they hear Dr. Mooney suggest root canal therapy to treat their toothaches. This is because there are so many false rumors circulating about this treatment, despite its ability to cure your pain and save your natural tooth. Although you may have heard that it’s “scary” or “painful,” that’s just not true. We offer dental sedation and make sure that you don’t experience an ounce of pain throughout the treatment. Deep Cleaning
Scaling and root planing are both parts of a deep cleaning process that typically takes place over the course of one or two appointments. During the first, Dr. Mooney will thoroughly clear away all plaque and tartar from the surface of your smile, as far down as the pockets of your gums. Then, we’ll smooth out the roots of your teeth, which will allow your healthy gum tissue to reattach and protect the vulnerable area. By minimizing the presence of harmful oral bacteria and protecting your teeth, we hope to reverse the effects of gum disease, depending on what stage it’s in, and restore your oral health.

Dentures
Whether you’re missing several or all of your teeth along an arch, we offer full and partial dentures that can help restore them. Each of these prosthetics are made of a gum-colored acrylic base that houses natural-looking, ceramic replacement teeth. The primary difference between the two designs is their bases. Partials fit like a puzzle piece between your existing teeth and are anchored in place with their foundation, while full dentures are specially designed to harness the power of natural suction and denture adhesive to stay in place.
