Teeth Cleaning
Dental Sealants
Tooth sealants are plastic resins that are placed on the chewing surfaces of teeth, usually back teeth, that have deep grooves and pits in them. They help to prevent decay on those surfaces by sealing the bacteria out of the grooves and pits and making these areas easier to keep clean. One of the most common areas for tooth decay is in these grooves on the back teeth that are too narrow for the tooth brush bristles to get to but not for bacteria to penetrate. They are simple to place, rarely require anesthetic because they are painless and only take a few minutes. The tooth is first cleaned and, on occasion, the grooves may be slightly widened with a specially designed drill that removes only a very slight amount of enamel to allow better access to the grooves. Then the sealant material is flowed into the pits and grooves and allowed to harden and bond to the tooth. A slight amount of adjusting and smoothing may be needed to make the sealant fit with the patients bite.

Veneers
The ceramic material used is more tooth like and more durable than the resins used in tooth colored fillings and tends to keep its color and gloss much longer. The veneers are usually made at an outside dental laboratory and usually take a week or two to fabricate. During this period, temporary veneers are worn. In some cases, the veneers can be made in the office using our cerec system and can be done in a single visit.

Bridges

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment (also known as endodontic treatment) is a procedure that involves the removal of a tooth’s pulp, which is the soft tissue inside every tooth that has the nerve and blood supply for the tooth. It is usually done when the pulp has become infected, either from a previous deep cavity or sometimes due to trauma to the tooth. The goal of the treatment is to preserve the tooth in the mouth but eliminate the infection and any associated pain. Once the pulp has been removed, a soft plastic material is placed in the canal space to seal it off and prevent a return of the infection, then a silver or tooth colored filling is used to cover the access opening on top of the tooth.

Deep Cleaning
Treatment for periodontal disease can vary depending on the extent of the damage but it usually involves several visits of a special type of cleaning called scaling and root planning. This is usually done with local anesthetic so that the cleaning devices can more thoroughly clean the deep pocket areas and hard to reach places between the roots without discomfort. This will remove the tartar, reduce the inflammation and sometimes reduce the pocket depth and make it easier for the patient to keep the teeth clean. If the pockets are deep enough and/or there has been more significant bone loss, then gum surgery may be needed. This procedure is usually done by a gum specialist (periodontist) and allows for even better access to the root surfaces to clean them. It may involve some recontouring of the existing, diseased, bone and in some cases bone grafting can be done to help restore the bone to some degree. Once periodontal treatment is completed, it is very important for patients to maintain the health of there gums with regular dental visits for professional cleanings, often on a more frequent schedule than that for healthy patients, and also with diligent home care.

Dentures
Most people know that dentures are used to replace multiple missing teeth and they are usually removable by the patient. They can be either full or partial dentures, depending on if any teeth remain in the jaw being restored. In many cases where someone is missing several teeth in one jaw, implants or bridges are the best option for replacement but in some cases, partial dentures are a viable, more economical option to replace multiple teeth. The remaining natural teeth need to be in good health and able to support the extra load from the partial denture and there are some limitations to their use as a permanent solution but they often can be used temporarily until more definitive treatments are performed.
