The Good - The physical and occupational therapists are well trained professionals who do an excellent job. I was in Avante for about 8 weeks of “toe touch only” rehab which means mostly bedrest. At the end of almost 2 months of therapy I was strong enough to go home.

The Bad - The dementia residents are not in a separate unit so constant yelling, confrontations with staff and wandering unattended into other patient’s rooms occured 24/7. Avante is chronically understaffed resulting in patient call buttons being unanswered while staff attend to the 4 or 5 combative patients with dementia.

The Ugly - The hallway shower in the Sub Acute Care area had black mold. I reported this twice. Once I accompanied a head nurse into the shower room and she said that she would inform housekeeping and maintenance, but 3 days later the black mold was still there.

Worked in this very nursing home years ago, a horrible experience. The nursing assistants were poorly trained and tried to intimidate the nurses. Nurses allowed this because they were afraid! When I complained to their Cooperate office, they tried to blame me for not being able to control the gang of nursing assistants. I didn't work there long. I was threatened until I left. The residents who can no longer speak are treated the worse. The nursing assistants expect the nurses to do most of their work and they love to go on breaks.. I was loaded up with patients and needed to pass meds., treatments, charting and do the work of the Nursing assistants too. Not fair N.A.s took their breaks outside as long as they wanted. It is was a horrible facility. I would not recommend those horrific circumstances for anyone! I only looked them up today because I was wondering if they are still in operation. Sadly yes. Family members should install hidden cameras in their loved ones' rooms.
