Whipsaw Charter Fishing

This past Saturday, 6 of us drove down at 3AM from Raleigh to go out on the Whipsaw with Capt. Robbie. We were all very excited to go, and had booked the trip on May 27th. We confirmed this via email with Capt. Robbie and put a credit card up as a guarantee for our reservation. You can imagine my surprise, when I pulled into the lot at 0510 to be met by Capt. Robbie and the first words out of his mouth were “I have been trying to reach you, you are not going out today”. Being familiar with charter trips, I assumed we had a weather no go, so I inquired about the reason for the no go. He told me that he lost his book. After a bit of back and forth, it turns out that Capt. Robbie lost his booking calendar, and had booked a charter for the morning of our reservation the day before. He then informed us that even though we had a previous reservation, he would not honor this contract and would be taking the other group out. This upset us, of course, but all he would say is, “I’m sorry…what do you want me to do?”. So we told him we wanted him to honor our reservation….but as you can probably tell by now, that did not happen. He spent a few minutes contacting other captains, and when he could not find us another boat, he just left. This was a truly sad excuse for a professional business. Once he lost his “book”, why did he not go through his email and find the reservations that were already made? A part of me believes he just got a better offer for that mornings trip and stiffed us, but either way, no compensation was offered for our gas money or time, and I can truly say that I will go out of my way to make sure everyone I talk to knows that this is a business that is poorly run, and a Captain that cannot be trusted. I would give zero stars but it is a minimum of one.
