Dr. Heskel has also been doing volunteer work in Haiti for many years. In addition to seeing hundreds of patients, he helped establish full-time walk-in clinics in Cité Soleil and Boacia. Today, these clinics are staffed by Haitian nurses, doctors and dentists, and supplemented by bimonthly weekend clinics staffed by American doctors and nurses. Haiti Clinic has special clinics for hypertension and at-risk pediatrics. There is also a women's clinic which provides birth control, disease prevention, and other types of care. Last year, Haiti Clinic treated over 12,000 patients.

Chemotherapy
Eczema is another condition brought on by an overactive immune system. Treatments include topical steroids, immune modulators such as tacrilimus ointment and elidel cream, UVB-ultraviolet light therapy, oral agents such as methotexate (a chemotherapy agent), cyclosporine and Dupixent (a new biologic agent). New medications are being tested each year.

Skin Cancer
I had an excellent experience with Dr. Heskel and his staff. Most important was their immediate attention to removing multiple growths on my legs, back and arm on my initial visit, without hesitation, very likely saving me from any spread from a melanoma on my forearm. Dr. Heskel then had to field an emergency call from me over the weekend, ordering necessary medication by telephone to my pharmacy. His prompt referral to a plastic surgeon resulted in beneficial surgery and recovery.

Dr. Heskel is a first-rate diagnostician who personally examines each patient. There are no PA’s at Heskel Dermatology either, so each of his patients benefit from Dr. Heskel’s experience and diligence when it comes to diagnosing and treating them.

A recent small-scale study examined the effects of combining an AHA-containing chemical peel with mechanical exfoliation. The authors observed that the combination treatment led to more significant improvements in hydration and skin elasticity than the chemical peel alone.
