SIPs are a panelized construction system generally used for walls and roofs and at times floor systems. The panels are usually made from 7/16” Oriented Strand Board (OSB) face and back with expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam core. Think of a foam coffee cup. The SIP panels are sized to match standard 2” framing materials which are often used as splines to connect the SIP panels together and provide additional support at the openings for doors and windows. Panels range in thickness from 4-1/2” to 12-1/4”. The maximum single panel size is 96” X 288”. The OSB face and back may be ordered in heavier thickness as required by the engineers or contractors to meet special site specific loading requirements such as solar panels.
