I was so excited that my husband was taking me to Nami for my birthday. I love Japanese steak house food. I have been to many from the east to west coast. When I walked in I was a little disappointed in the atmosphere. It was clean and neat but very sparse. No real decor to speak of. no hibachi tables could be seen but you could definitely HEAR them. I went in knowing what I wanted to order after studying the online menu but the actual menu was different. I explained to the server that I saw something on the menu but could not find it or remember the name but that it was this strips of N.Y. Steak marinated in sukiyaki sauce. He pointed out Sukiaki Steak. It was the same description....no mention of vegetables mixed in anywhere. I said ok. we wanted Tempura appetizer and you could get either shrimp or vegetable. no mixed. Fine, I was in the mood for shrimp. Imagine my dismay when my shrimp Tempura appetizer consisted of mostly vegetable and ONLY 3 shrimp...for $8. It was excellent shrimp tempura but 3 pieces? mostly vegetable. Kinda felt ripped off. I also ordered Sunomono but they call it Cucumber Salad. It was very watery. You really had to get it wet to get any flavor on it. very weak. That brings me to the soup and salad that comes with the order. The soup was fine. chicken broth. Not the fabulous miso soup I usually get as the house soup from Japanese restaurants. The salad was green, very small, which is fine but the dressing, also a disappointment, was watered down thousand island instead of the fabulous Ginger or miso soup a great Japanese Steakhouse would/should serve. When I say watery...it was water with pink coloring, no flavor. It was also brought before the appetizer, which is wrong, but that's not a deal breaker. I also ordered the Nami Punch, which was exactly what I had a taste for to go with my meal. wish the meal deserved such a good cocktail. glad I had it to wash down the over cooked, dried out, near flavorless entree that was supposed to be marinated steak. It was mostly vegetables, much like a fajita. There was NO mention of the steak being mixed with vegetables in the menu description. the texture of the meat was like it had been pre cooked, set aside and reheated when ordered. The outside was crispy hard and the rest, just dry. really terrible. My husband ordered steak and shrimp meal. The steak was not cooked as ordered and the shrimp was overcooked. he barely touched either. so $91.00 plus tip later and I would not recommend this place ever. The Tempura good but overpriced for the portion. The food was aweful period. The price on the meals would have been fine if they were edible. The atmosphere was lacking. The service was the best thing about the place. It was great service. Too bad they don't have a great product to serve.
