        A good landscape design is made up of layers, with low-growing plants concealing the legginess of the taller plants behind. In front of solid walls and taller portions of the building, you should use taller, fuller plant material, and in front of windows and porches, shorter, more colorful choices. This allows you to introduce plants of complimentary color and textures. For the best visual show, be sure to use plants with different types of leaves and coloring. Color can be provided with flowers as well as leaves and even bark. A good mix of plant material, while using multiples of some plants for continuity, is the most pleasing combination. As always, mature size has to be considered when planting to allow for growing space.
