Crown reduction often includes reducing the height of the tree. If this service is requested, you will want to first clarify why the tree might need to be reduced. Is it because of building interference? Have there been many large branches breaking off the top of the tree in high winds? Is there a safety concern primarily due to the size of the tree?
Storm Damage Cleanup
These would include winter storm damage, hazardous trees and other facets of tree failure not usually included in the budget.
Tree Planting
Proper planning is the only answer. Sadly, this planning does not pertain to the pre—existing mistakes of past tree choices. Future tree planting efforts are much more thought out. We now know better varieties for tight planting areas. Root barriers are being put in, as a preventative, rather than a desperate effort after the fact. Common sense thinking about growth patterns can help save money and needless repairs. Of course, by the time these trees get big, they will be someone else’s problem anyway. (OUCH)!
Many of the requests we get for root-pruning in complexes are due to the wrong tree being planted in the wrong place. As the tree matures, it begins to push up cement or asphalt, causing hundreds or thousands of dollars in damage. What options are available when this occurs?
Tree Fertilization
Tree Maintenance
A well known, and very profitable tree care firm has a recipe for success. It started with the statement that "every tree needs service". This company, which will remain nameless, worked their sales staff hard, pushing the attitude that they must make sales at every level. The strategy was this; first push the trim job for all it’s worth. Then push the fertilizer because "all trees need to be fed". With all that fertilizer, the trees push out more growth than ever and in many cases, the aphid population flourished as well as all the other leaf eating insects. Most leaf eating insects are attracted to the masses of succulent new growth. Now that the insects are here, sell a spray job. This of course becomes a maintenance contract. The next year the same trees will need to be trimmed again and fertilized and sprayed,.etc. That is the secret to making money in the tree business.
Tree Cabling and Bracing
There are many different types of systems and techniques for cabling. Ask the Arborist just how it will be done before work commences. The better informed you are about what is being done, the better your chances are of getting a quality job.
Arborist Services
The main difference is education. However, there are plenty of individuals who refer to themselves as Arborists without any training. The International Society of Arboriculture has developed a certification program and testing that gives the individual the the distinction of being called a Certified Arborist. The responsibility of being a Certified Arborist means maintaining the educational credits every year.
Tree Mulching
Ok, what is mulch? Basically, mulch is the debris that plants leave on the ground that builds up over time. Mulch is also what we put down under the tree (or plant) to help it grow better.
Water Feature in the Landscape--- For a few years, I really got into creative landscape design using water features. I know a lot about water features and I know how hard it is on the back!
