X-rays
Cottonwood Endodontics is a leader in the newest imaging technology, 3 dimensional radiography CBCT machine allows us to take a small 3D image, which can be sliced and rotated to help diagnose and develop a treatment plan. This technology uses very small amounts of radiation (approximately 3 regular dental x-rays and 14 µ5v) to capture an image.

The pulp extends from the crown of the tooth to the tip of the roots where it connects to the tissues surrounding the root. The pulp is important during a tooth’s growth and development. However, once a tooth is fully mature it can survive without the pulp, because the tooth continues to be nourished by the tissues surrounding it.
Bridges

Root Canal Treatment
Endodontic treatment has now been completed on your tooth. The root canal system is now permanently sealed; however, the outer surface is sealed with a temporary restoration. Your dentist must place a permanent restoration to protect the tooth from fracture and decay. Please call you dentist for an appointment immediately. If the tooth is left unprotected, it may fracture or become necessary to retreat the root canal.
Apicoectomy
Although there are many surgical procedures that can be performed to save a tooth, the most common is called apicoectomy or root-end resection. When inflammation or infection persists in the bony area around the end of your tooth after a root canal procedure, your endodontist may have to perform an apicoectomy.

Dentures
Often, the only alternative to surgery is extraction of the tooth. The extracted tooth must then be replaced with an implant, bridge, or removable partial denture to restore chewing function and to prevent adjacent teeth from shifting. Because these alternatives require surgery or dental procedures on adjacent healthy teeth, endodontic surgery is usually the most biologic and cost-effective option for maintaining your oral health.

Dental Implants
The only other alternative is extraction of the tooth. The extracted tooth must then be replaced with an implant, bridge or removable partial denture to restore chewing function and to prevent adjacent teeth from shifting. Because these options require extensive surgery or dental procedures on adjacent healthy teeth, they can be far more costly and time consuming than retreatment and restoration of the natural tooth.

Not completely separated into two distinct segments. Because of the position of the crack, damage to the pulp is common. Root canal treatment is frequently needed to treat the injured pulp. Your dentist will then restore your tooth with a crown to hold the pieces together and protect the cracked tooth. At times, the crack may extend below the gingival tissue line, requiring tooth extraction. A nontreatable tooth is shown in the graphic above.

General Dentistry
Roger K. Warren was born and raised in Brigham City, Utah. He graduated from Box Elder High School and received a BA in Biology from the University of Utah in 1977. He attended Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, Illinois and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1981. Dr. Warren practiced General Dentistry in Salt Lake City until 1986 when he returned to a full time specialty residency in Endodontics at Oregon Health Sciences University,in Portland Oregon. Dr. Warren has been practicing in Salt Lake CIty as a specialist since 1988.
