The Caring Community

General Info
Shoals Hospital was founded in 1968 by a group of physicians dedicated to serving residents of Colbert County. Today, the 178-bed, general acute care facility boasts spacious, private rooms for all patients as well as a 24-hour emergency department; medical and oncology services; medical/surgical inpatient units; and an intensive care and short-stay surgery units. Shoals also operates the region's only in-patient acute rehabilitation facility, the J. W. Sommer Rehabilitation Unit and the Shoals Senior Care Center, the Shoals’ only psychiatric unit dedicated to our senior adults. Shoals Hospital is Joint Commission accredited, is a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tier 1 Hospital, and has received a Blue Distinguished award in hip and knee replacements. The open MRI in the Shoals Hospital Radiology Department compliments our full-service Imaging and Diagnostics Department, nuclear medicine, CT scans, ultrasound and X-ray. For those visiting Shoals on an outpatient basis, we offer radiology and laboratory testing services as well as respiratory and surgery options. We are committed to community education efforts that include a quarterly lecture series and ongoing immunization programs. At our community health fairs, we provide a variety of health screenings, such as blood pressure, and cholesterol and blood glucose monitoring. In addition to providing excellent medical care, our employees continually participate in community service projects that involve raising money for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, the March of Dimes, and the United Way. We have a very active senior volunteer program, Helping Hands, which participates in activities both inside the hospital as well as in the larger Shoals community. Shoals Hospital employs over 300 people and has more than 100 physicians on staff. Along with ECM Hospital and ECM East, both of which are in Florence, Shoals Hospital is an affiliate of Regional Care Hospital Partners.
