General Info
The Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill, located in historic downtown Monterey, CA., is a brewery and New American restaurant offering locally sourced and thoughtfully created, approachable food and artisan craft beer. New chef Brandon Miller’s creative, free-wheeling culinary chops, developed on the Monterey Peninsula at the acclaimed Stokes Adobe and the popular Spanish tapas restaurant Mundaka, will be paired with Head Brewer J.C. Hill's hop-forward brewing style focused on bright, West Coast style ales, Belgian-inspired ales, and a variety of experimental batches across all styles, the Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill has quickly become one of the premier craft beer breweries in Northern California. Chef Miller cut his culinary teeth in the renowned Bay Area restaurant scene, first at Lulu Bis and Campton Place, then as executive sous chef with renowned chefs Michael Chiarello at the award-winning Tra Vigne in St. Helena and sous chef with Cindy Pawlcyn at Fog City Diner. Miller then spent 13 years as executive chef at Stokes Adobe in Monterey, then for nine years as executive chef at Mundaka in Carmel before it transitioned into a Mexican seafood place. Miller’s creative style draws from a number of influences, including Italian from his stint with Chiarello, Spanish from his years at Mundaka and from Pawlcyn, the use of local sustainable meats, seafood and produce. And he will definitely be incorporating the brewery’s beers into his dishes, including such touches as steamed beer gastrique and IPA mustard. Hill and Miller will be working closely together to marry the food and beer offerings at Alvarado Street, with the goal of giving guests the ultimate sensory experience. Miller recently resumed his passion for home-brewing beer, bringing his own take on the food-beer pairings at Alvarado Street. Our mission is to provide our guests, both local and visitor alike, a unique yet casual environment where they can enjoy cuisine that has been prepared with a nod toward the expert pairing of a specific beer. This educational mindset offers the customer an elevated, yet approachable meal in a relaxed atmosphere. As a family-owned and operated business, we are proud to be a part of the Monterey Peninsula community and will continually strive to provide exceptional service and quality fare at a reasonable price.
