Dental Care

Veterinary Ophthalmology
After completing prerequisites for admission to veterinary school at Virginia Commonwealth University, she attended VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Becky received several awards including the Outstanding Fourth Year Student Award, The Pharmacia/Upjohn Proficiency Award, and the Richard B. Talbot Memorial Award. She was also a member of Phi Zeta Honor Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. After graduation, Dr. Becky completed a small animal internship with training in Oncology, Cardiology, and Ophthalmology at North Carolina State University Hospital, where she was voted Intern of the Year. She has been in private practice for 15 years in both North Carolina and Virginia. “Dr. Becky” joined MAC in August of 2006. Professionally, she is a member of the American Animal Hospital, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association.

What can I do to protect my pet? Heartworm disease is preventable! Dogs should be tested annually and before starting prevention. Provide heartworm prevention 12 months of the year. Prevention is the safest and most cost-effective option, but treatment is available for dogs (although costly and lengthy). Cats should be tested before starting prevention and re-tested as the veterinarian deems appropriate. There is NO treatment in cats, so prevention is critical and the only means of protection.

Dr. Berger graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 and specializes in soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and acupuncture utilizing both Eastern & Western medicine. Dr. Berger has spent the last 13 years practicing in San Jose, CA. For eight of those thirteen years, she worked as a shelter veterinarian in the first certified model shelter in the country. She has practiced on 3 continents: Thailand, Panama, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, Romania and Bosnia Herzegovina.

Senior Pet Care
Dr. Whitehurst's biggest accomplishments have been becoming a mother of wonderful twins, completing two Ironman triathlons, and running her first ultramarathon through Zion National State Park. She lives in Midlothian, with her husband Jason, twins Brooke and Patrick, and rescue dog Jack. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, cycling, running, cooking, and camping with her family. Professionally, her interests include ultrasonography, surgery, internal medicine, and senior pet care.

Small Animal Vet
Dr. Whitehurst grew up in Mechanicsville and attended the College of William and Mary where she earned a B.S. in Biology. From there, she moved to Blacksburg, where she worked at the Large Animal Teaching Hospital, then graduated as a veterinarian in 2007 from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. After Graduation, she spent two years fulfilling her James Herriot dream of taking care of all creatures great and small before coming full circle back to being a strictly small animal veterinarian.
