Plantar Fasciitis
Two of the most common causes of foot & ankle pain are Plantar Fasciitis & Achilles Tendinitis. Both cause heel pain with plantar fasciitis being felt throughout the bottom of the foot and with Achilles tendinitis extending up into the calf. Patients who have suffered for more than a few months can be eligible a minimally invasive Tenex procedure.
Medical Weight Loss
A thyroid ultrasound evaluates both lobes of the thyroid and the isthmus of the thyroid. It also evaluates the neck for any abnormal appearing lymph nodes.Your physician may order this test if there is a lump in your neck or if you have other symptoms of thyroid disease (such as weight loss/gain, abnormal blood work etc...). An ultrasound can show masses within the thyroid or measure the size of the thyroid to determine if it is enlarged.
Primary Care
This potentially life-saving test is quick, pain-free and affordable. The patient lays down while x-ray images are taken from various angles all around the body. The scan itself takes less than a minute. Those images are then read buy a radiologist who will determine a calcium score. This score will be sent to the patient’s primary care provider and available to the patient via the patient portal. The chart on this page shows the indications for calcium scores.

Pelvic Pain
Studies show 30 percent of patients with chronic pelvic pain have pelvic venous insufficiency as the sole cause of their pain and an additional 15 percent have PVI along with another pelvic condition. Pelvic venous insufficiency is similar to varicose veins in the legs, but located in the ovarian and pelvic veins. In both cases, the valves in the veins that help return blood to the heart against gravity become weakened and don’t close properly. This allows blood to flow backwards and pool in the vein causing pressure and bulging veins. In the pelvis, varicose veins can cause pain and affect the uterus, ovaries and vulva.

Kidney Stones
Intravenous Pyelography is an x-ray examination of the kidneys, ureters, and urinary bladder. IVP studies are used to detect problems within the urinary tract. Some indications for an IVP include, frequent urination, blood in the urine seen or unseen by the patient, or pain in the side or lower back, kidney stones, enlarged prostate or other changes.
Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the most deadly cancer in the US, killing more than breast, colon and prostate put together. A lack a screening is in direct correlation with these numbers. Now there is a simple, painless low-dose CT test that can detect early onset of lung cancer, when it is the most treatable. High-risk lung cancer patients are encouraged to receive this elective procedure that can detect the early onset of lung cancer.

Multiple Sclerosis
MRI of the brain is useful in detecting brain tumors, strokes and certain disorders such as multiple sclerosis. MRI can also detect abnormalities of the eyes or inner ear. Most exams of the brain will require an injection of contrast material to enhance the visibility of certain tissues or blood vessels. A small needle is placed into a vein of the hand or arm for the injection.

Thyroid Cancer
This is a therapeutic study involving a dose of radioactive iodine designed to destroy abnormal thyroid tissue. Both your doctor and our radiologist will review your thyroid condition to make the best determination in the amount of therapy required. Patients receiving a higher dose (thyroid cancer patients) will be given specific instructions to follow for 3-4 days after the ablation. They will be consulted by a radiation physicist and our radiologist prior to receiving the capsule. Patients with hyperthyroidism will have a few minor restrictions and will be consulted by our radiologist. Patients should not have anything to eat at least 4 hours before the test and for 1 hour after the test. Patients should be off of any thyroid medication at least 3-4 weeks, and a serum pregnancy test is required for all females within childbearing age unless proof of hysterectomy or tubal ligation is present.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging, medically known as sonography, is a method of obtaining images from inside the human body by using high frequency sound waves. As sound passes through the body, echoes are produces that identify how far away an object is, the size of the object, its shape and consistency (solid, fluid or mixed). Ultrasound can also measure the flow of blood using a specialized method called Doppler Ultrasound. No radiation is used with ultrasound imaging. Ultrasound is a useful way of examining many of the body’s internal organs such as the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, uterus, ovaries, thyroid and testicles. Because ultrasound provides real-time images, it is also useful as a guide for needle biopsies.

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine uses radioactive tracers to show the function of different organs within the body. These tracers are most often given to the patient by intravenous injection, although some studies require the swallowing of a radioactive capsule. The camera used in nuclear medicine then detects the gamma rays being emitted from the patient, forming an image on the computer screen. For most studies performed in nuclear medicine, the radiation to the patient is comparable to that of a chest x-ray.

Computed Tomography
Advanced Medical Imaging (AMI) is the only facility in the Lincoln area to offer DaTscan™, a new test that helps physicians determine if a patient may have a parkinsonian syndrome (PS), the most well-known syndrome of those being Parkinson’s Disease (PD). DaTscan™ is a radiopharmaceutical that is administered prior to a SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) scan to help a radiologist see whether or not there is degeneration of dopamine transporters in the brain. Studying this degeneration, along with a patient’s changes in functioning helps physicians to determine if a patient’s symptoms may be related to a PS or rather an essential tremor (ET).
Interventional Radiology
Vascular and Interventional Radiologists are the surgeons of radiology and are able to treat conditions with image-guided minimally invasive procedures. All of the below procedures formerly required extensive surgery but, with Interventional Radiology technology, these treatments can be completed with less pain and recovery time.

Orthopedic Surgery
The technologist will ask whether you have a pacemaker, brain aneurysm clips, artificial limbs, or any metal screws or plates. A patient with a pacemaker cannot have an MRI. In most cases, metal used in orthopedic surgery pose no risk during an MRI. You will also be asked if you have ever had a bullet or shrapnel in your body or ever worked with metal. If there is a possibility of metal shrapnel in the eyes, you will be asked to do an Xray prior to the MRI.
Hysterectomy
This is a study that looks at the function of the thyroid. It is used to evaluate patients with abnormal thyroid lab values and/or symptoms of thyroid disorder. A radioactive capsule is given to the patient and the patient returns 4 hours later for a quick check, and then again 24 hours later for 1 hour of imaging. Patients should not have anything to eat at least 4 hours before taking the capsule and for 1 hour after. Patients should be off of any thyroid medications at least 3-4 weeks prior to the study. A serum pregnancy test is required for this test on all females within childbearing age, unless proof of hysterectomy or tubal ligation is present.

Physical Therapy
Once diagnosed, patients should try conservative therapies such as rest, ice, physical therapy, and corticosteroid injections. If positive changes are not seen with a few months, patients are eligible for a Tenex consultation. Consultations do not require a physician’s referral.
Tennis Elbow
Most elbow pain can be contributed to two conditions commonly known as “tennis elbow” or “golfers elbow”. Contrary to their namesake, many people who suffer have never even picked up a tennis racket or golf club. Medically known as epicondylitis or tendonitis, this pain is caused by overuse and repetitive motion of the elbow or other parts of the arm or hands. This strain causes microscopic tears in the tendons causing swelling and pain. Repetitive actives that can cause elbow tendonitis include but are limited to: trade work (plumbing, carpentry, electrical work), knitting, typing, yard work, painting and cooking. Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis is more common and affects the outside of the arm, while golfers elbow or medial epicondylitis affects the inside of the arm.

The plantar fascia is the soft tissue that connects the toes and the heel of the foot. When strained or over-worked, it can cause plantar fasciitis. Symptoms include heel pain and/or flat feet. Not only is the condition painful at the source, but left untreated it can also lead to other issues including hip pain, back pain, leg pain, and heel spurs. It is common in middle age adults and people who are consistently on their feet. It can also be caused by athletic activity, poor arch support, or inadequate footwear.
