After almost 6 years at Sutter, Dr. Palfy is looking forward to joining our thriving practice at MPA where she will bring her experience with diverse patient populations, as well as primary and urgent care knowledge. In addition to taking care of basic pediatric issues, she welcomes coordinating care with specialists in more complex patients. She also has a special interest in addressing social and emotional concerns as a part of overall health.

"California sets a smart example for the nation by passing tough new laws that will require the vast majority of children in day care or kindergarten to be vaccinated against a slew of infectious diseases next year. The state will no longer grant exemptions based on a parent's religious convictions or "personal belief" that vaccines might be harmful. It will only allow exemptions for children with medical conditions that make vaccination unsafe. This public health policy ought to be adopted by all states.
Flu Shots
For the present, we will be unable to offer flu vaccines to parents and caretakers as we have done in the past. We encourage adults to get their flu shots at their doctor's offices or pharmacies as soon as possible.
Immunizations
(updated 6/10/22) We are excited to partner with Marin County Public Health in the rollout of COVID vaccines for our patients ages 6 months to age 4 years. The county is gearing up to provide this vaccination at their established sites but we will also be running a number of COVID vaccine clinics for our patients as well. Cervical Cancer
Each year, more than 20,000 HPV-associated cancers occur in women; cervical cancer is the most common. In the U.S., about 12,000 women get cervical cancer every year, and about 4,000 women die from it. Gardasil-9 can prevent most of these cancers. More than 11,000 HPV-associated cancers occur each year in men; oropharyngeal cancers are the most common.

Autism
While all states require schoolchildren to be vaccinated, nearly all allow exemptions for families with religious objections (only Mississippi and West Virginia limit exemptions to medical necessity), and 20 currently allow exemptions based on a parent's personal beliefs. Those beliefs are often based on irrational fears that vaccines might cause autism, a link based on fraudulent science that has long been discredited.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Dr. Ornstein chose to be in private practice because it allows her the time to really get to know her patients and provide comprehensive, holistic care. She believes in helping all children reach their full potential both emotionally and physically. She strongly advocates preventative, proactive care that is firmly rooted in science. Among her particular areas of interest and expertise are asthma, atopic dermatitis (eczema), and ADHD management. She served as a physician teacher for the breastfeeding course at Marin General Hospital for over 10 years, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for two years, and did extra study in hypnosis.

Dr. Schwartzman is a native Northern Californian who was raised in Menlo Park. She attended UC Berkeley and graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in Physiology. She then moved to Boston to work at Harvard affiliated hospitals, first as a physical therapy aide, then later as a reproductive endocrinology lab tech. In her spare time she also enjoyed working as a CPR and First Aid Instructor at The American Red Cross. She returned to California to attend the University of Southern California School of Medicine and completed her Pediatric internship and residency at UCLA Medical Center.

Her youthful personality and small size are especially welcoming to babies and young children, while her specialized skills in dealing with eating disorders, sports injuries, and gynecologic problems allow her to connect with patients well into their teens.
