Oral Cancer Screening
Dentists play a key role in the early detection of oral cancer when patients are able to treat it most successfully. During your routine exam, Dr. Borrowdale checks your neck and oral tissues for recurring sores, white or red patches, or unusual lumps. All of these are common signs of oral cancer.

Teeth Cleaning
We offer ” Healthy Teeth Plan” for patients with no insurance. This is a membership discount plan which covers your routine care such as cleanings and exams and provides discounts on other dental treatments. Call our office to find out more.
Dental Sealants
The back teeth are especially prone to decay and needing fillings because they are hard to reach with a toothbrush. If Dr. Borrowdale feels that you would benefit from a sealant, he will apply one to protect the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. A sealant is a thin plastic coating that he bonds to your teeth in a procedure that typically takes no more than a few minutes.

Fillings
Veneers
If one or more of your teeth are cracked, chipped or discolored, consider porcelain veneers. This is also an ideal option when you have gaps between your teeth you would like to close or have some teeth that are slightly misaligned, too large or too small. Veneers are a thin piece of ceramic that attach to the front of your tooth to disguise these types of dental issues. Dr. Borrowdale may need to remove a small amount of tooth enamel in some cases so the veneer looks the best it can. Every case is unique and Dr. Borrowdale can discuss your individual needs with you.
Crowns
If you need an inlay or onlay, you may also hear Dr. Gregory Borrowdale or his staff refer to them as partial crowns. He chooses to use one of these treatments when at least some of your tooth enamel is still healthy. The inlay or onlay helps to increase the strength of your tooth so you are able to preserve it. It also helps to guard against future infections and other problems that threaten your oral health. Inlays and onlays are typically constructed from porcelain, gold, or composite metal. We will determine which material will work best for you at your initial consultation.
Bridges
When you have one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge conceals the gap and helps to preserve your oral health. When you don’t replace missing teeth, they could shift towards the open spot and cause issues with alignment and bone loss. Additionally, missing teeth affect the way that you eat and speak. Cosmetically, many people feel too self-conscious to smile when they have a noticeable gap after losing teeth.
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is an effective and budget-friendly way to disguise minor teeth imperfections. A patient will choose bonding when they want a single-visit, less-expensive option than porcelain veneers. Often times, dental anesthesia is not required for bonding.
Restorative Dentistry
Dr. Gregory Borrowdale may recommend a crown lengthening procedure when you have decay present below your gum line. Typically, he completes this process before fitting you with a new dental crown. Other dentists often refer patients to him for crown lengthening before they start a restorative dentistry procedure to repair severely decayed or broken teeth. It exposes more of the tooth by adjusting its bone and gum level. This makes it easier to proceed with the restoration.

Root Canal Treatment
As part of the normal aging process, your teeth may begin to show signs of decay. The effects of years of bacterial growth, plaque, and tartar can cause a number of oral health concerns. People are more likely to need a root canal, replacement of a lost filling, treatment for teeth grinding, or repair of a cracked tooth as they get older.

Periodontal Surgery
Dr. Borrowdale recommends periodontal surgery, also called pocket reduction surgery, when you have advanced periodontal disease. Dr. Borrowdale would then refer you to his in-house periodontist to perform the periodontal surgery. The periodontist removes bacteria, calculus, plaque, and other harmful debris that threaten your oral health. He also reshapes the bone and tissue impacted by periodontal disease. This process allows you to retain your natural teeth for as long as possible.
Deep Cleaning
During scaling and root planing (deep cleaning), our periodontist removes tartar and plaque that have formed below your gum line. This is what leads to gum disease. Using dental instruments specially designed for this purpose, the periodontist cleans the teeth and gums while smoothing out gum pockets that have developed. The risk of having tartar and plaque in your gum pockets is that bacteria can invade more easily. Bacteria toxins can cause irritation as well.

Dentures
When you are missing several consecutive teeth or all of your natural teeth, dentures disguise the tooth loss as well as provide you with full chewing and speaking functionality. Dr. Gregory Borrowdale typically recommends dentures to patients who still have some of their natural teeth so they can act as an anchor. If you no longer have any of your natural teeth, you may be the ideal candidate to receive dental implants anchored to dentures.

General Dentistry
After graduating with her Bachelors in Biology from San Diego State University, Julie started her career in dentistry working as a Dental Assistant in a periodontal office. As her interest in the field grew she decided to pursue a career in Dental Hygiene. In 2012 she graduated from Cypress College’s Dental Hygiene Program and has been working in the Sacramento area ever since. After spending a few years working in both General Dentistry offices and a Periodontal office she joined Dr. Borrowdale’s practice in 2015 and in 2020 Julie decided to expand her dental knowledge and now you will see her in the front office as well. In her spare time Julie enjoys jogging, swimming, spending time with her family and two sons.
