Ear Infections
The most common form of Vertigo is Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV. Acute episodes can come out of nowhere and debilitate a person. The cause of BPPV generally involve crystals in the inner ear becoming lodged in the inner ear canal. The staff at Sports and Rehab are able to treat vertigo by performing maneuvers which adjust crystals in the inner ear to return a patient to their normal function by decreasing the dizziness, nausea he/she may experience. Other causes of vertigo include Inner ear infections or disorders, migraines, tumors, inner ear trauma or injury, and stroke. Symptoms associated with vertigo include nausea, vomiting, sweating, and abnormal eye movement. The staff at Sports and Rehab are trained to diagnose a disorder of the vestibular system and treat the disorder by either performing maneuvers or utilizing Visual tracking exercises, other vertigo exercises, and balance strategies are given to a patient to strengthen the vestibular system to avoid the episodes from returning.

Rob received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in 2003. In 2007, he then graduated from Umass Lowell with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Soon after, he became employed by Sports & Rehab in the fall of 2007 as a staff physical therapist. Rob is certified in the Graston Technique, I & II as well as a certification in Trigger Point Dry Needling. Rob has worked in all three of the Sports and Rehab clinics, but is presently the acting administrator for Hampstead Sports and Rehab since 2013. Rob’s main clinical interests include general orthopedics, functional training, and sport specific training.

Orthotics are custom made inserts for inside your shoes to support your feet and reduce pain. Clinical research studies have shown that orthotics both decrease foot pain and improve function. Unlike shoe inserts you can buy in stores, they are molded and customized to fit your feet. Prescription orthotics are also made of higher quality materials and last several years unlike store brands. There are two types of orthotics, Functional orthotics that control abnormal motion and accommodative orthotics that provide additional cushioning and support. A skilled therapist can assess your arch and your gait/walking pattern to determine the type of insert/orthotic you may need. The inserts can decrease pain associated with plantar fasciitis, heel pain, achilles tendonitis, bursitis, ankle injury, knee pain, hip pain and/or lower back pain.
