Dental Examination
X-rays
These television monitors are found next to every patient chair. Patients can watch a movie or TV show. Patients can also view their dental x-rays when speaking to the doctor about the findings for a better understanding of their oral health.

Teeth Cleaning
Regular cleanings help keep gums healthy and teeth cavity-free. A dental cleaning includes removal of tartar and plaque that is not removed during regular brushing and having teeth polished to remove stains.
Fluoride Treatment
It is recommended that a child have their first dental check-up by the age of 1. Informing your child about their first dental visit is very helpful. At your child’s first visit, we will review the medical/dental health history form with you. Your child will meet the dentist and have everything explained to him/her. We encourage parents to accompany their child during their visit. This gives you an opportunity to see us working with your child and allows us to discuss dental findings and treatment needs directly with you. Radiographs (x-rays) may be taken if necessary. If no treatment is needed, the teeth will be cleaned and a fluoride treatment will be provided. We look forward to meeting you and your child for your first appointment!
Dental Sealants
Sealants protect your child’s teeth from decay. Sealants are placed on the biting surfaces of premolars and molars to seal the grooves and pits of the teeth. The teeth are prepped for the sealant application and the sealant is painted directly on the chewing surface of the teeth and then hardens. Sealants are applied in one visit.
Space Maintainers
Space maintainers are used to keep teeth from drifting into an empty tooth space due to early loss of primary (baby) teeth. Baby teeth act as a guide for the eruption of permanent teeth. A space maintainer is made of stainless steel and is fixed to the teeth.

EXTRACTIONS and/or CROWNS: A small amount of bleeding is normal. Do NOT let your child spit, as this can cause more bleeding. In order to not disturb the blood clot, do NOT use a straw to drink for the first 24 hours. Also, remember that a small amount of blood mixed in with a lot of spit in the mouth looks like a lot of blood. An old blanket or towel may be placed under child’s head while sleeping.
Dental Bonding
Cosmetic bonding is the process of filling or restoring teeth with a tooth-colored material in order to maintain its natural appearance. In order to bond a tooth, tooth colored material is added to the tooth to build it up.

Root Canal Treatment
Pulpotomies involve treating decay within the inside of the tooth. If the inside of the tooth, known as the dental pulp, is damaged it will gradually decay if left within the tooth. The process involves removing the pulp, cleaning out the root canals, and packing the canals with material that will help restore the tooth until it is time for it to exfoliate (or fall out on its own naturally).

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Tooth Extractions
A dental extraction is the removal of extremely decayed or broken teeth. To perform an extraction, the area is anesthetized to minimize discomfort and the tooth is then rocked back and forth until it is removed from its socket.

Orthodontics
Dr. Justin Robbins attended University of Tennessee-Memphis Dental School. He graduated from dental school in 1999. After graduating dental school, Dr. Justin practiced dentistry for 5 years in the United States Navy. Four of those years were spent in Yokosuka, Japan. Because of his enjoyment of children, Dr. Justin decided to specialize in pediatric dentistry after completing his assignment with the navy. He has completed his 2 year residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Justin joined Dr. John at Dickson Pediatric Dentistry in July of 2006. Since his residency completion, Dr. Justin has completed many continuing education courses in areas such as laser dentistry and orthodontics. He is also able to provide comprehensive dental treatment with the use of general anesthesia in a hospital setting for children with severe dental problems as well as patients with special needs. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Justin and his wife Leslie have 3 sons. Jack is a junior and plays football and baseball. Luke is a freshman and plays football and soccer. Jon Tyler is in the 4th grade and plays baseball. Sports, fishing, and hunting are Dr. Justin’s favorite hobbies. Of course with 3 active sons, his wife Leslie has a full-time job of keeping up with their activities, as well as her community involvement.
Braces
Having braces should not cause any major changes in your day-to-day activities. You can still dine out, sing, play a musical instrument, or have pictures taken. With proper care and maintenance, you can promote your oral health while on your way to a more beautiful smile.
