- Highland Park Fish Camp in Deland, Florida is proudly frozen in time – it’s the way “old Florida” used to be, before theme parks arrived on the landscape. In 2017, we are celebrating our 55th anniversary of the family owned fish camp, where the largemouth bass are biting year round. This rustic destination has updated conveniences over the years, but nature has been preserved. Highland Park Fish Camp is an authentic haven carved out of the wilderness and the perfect place for the fisherman, the family that loves camping and the nature lover.

The country store has everything you would expect in a bait shop, plus all the fishing stories to go with it. Gas, beers, snacks, ice, pontoon rentals, and smiles.

WOW what an amazing adventure! We rented a pontoon from these folks and it was a brand new boat. They marked us a map to boat ride over to the springs for lunch and swimming. We had a great experience. Some of the best customer service Ive had. If you are in the Orlando/Daytona Beach area you have to check these guys out.

We stayed there Oct., 2015 and were disappointed. The kitchen tables, cabinets and night stand were dirty, even after we cleaned them up a little, we decided not to use them. Broken docks, broken boat lifts and old sunken boats which just didn't happen. Ruts in the road will blow you tires out. This place is/was not cheap to rent.

Highland Park Fish Camp will now be a family tradition for my family! We stayed in one of their cabins and rented a pontoon boat for the day. This place is a unique find for anyone who wants to see the real Florida! The staff was amazing, they went out of their way to make us feel at home. They have a stocked pond for catch and release perfect for the kids. Great family run business for over 50 years! We will be back! Thanks Highland Park!

DO NOT STAY HERE! This “fish camp” places no priority on guests. They must make enough money on their boat launch and boat rentals to not care about guests – long or short term. The bathrooms are inadequate (a single shower for the whole camp & 1 toilet for women & 1 for men), dingy and dirty. The campsites are too close together and just out in the open field – no trees, no cover and no fire rings – “just be responsible with where you build your fire.” I was over charged – which was refunded after much discussion and disbelief on the owner’s part. Now let me get to the worst – they have “camp dogs” that are not subject to the leash requirements set forth for every other guest so they invade your campsite, bark all day and night and chase you barking if you happen to need the restroom facilities after dark. There is a TRAIN that screams through the dark at 2 AM and planes that fly so close overhead you’d swear they are landing in the campsite next to you. AND their boat launch customers also like to scream at each other at 5:30 AM about “boat launch etiquette” while standing 30 feet away from the campsite on the south side of the property. PLUS while I was calmly asking for a refund for the nights we had paid for but not yet stayed I was interrupted by one owner (sprawled in his leather Lazy Boy) who was inflexibly unreasonable and rude, laughing at my concerns and dissatisfaction. Apparently unless you belong to the “good ole boy club” you are not prioritized or treated as a guest at all. And last but not least their website is ridiculously misleading and inadequate. You’ll notice there are no pictures of the property save 1 or 2 of the pond and the bait shop. There are lots of pictures of people with fish but they don’t include pictures of the grounds because of the reasons I listed above – nothing but boats, old cabins, dirty singlewide trailers, moldy fifth wheels and campers and a cinder block “outhouse.” DO NOT STAY HERE!

We thought this would be our favorite place until... We complained to the owners of the Highland Park Fish Camp about the boats flying out of their facility, one right after another, even though it is a NO WAKE AREA. We were told by the owners that they considered this law to be a unfair law and that the manatees could just get out of the way. So if you care about Florida's wildlife do not use this facility at all. Says alot for Captain Rawlins when bass fishermen spending money at his place is more important then the wildlife that was here first. We also found the same bass fishermen go at breakneck speeds all through the minimum wake area around Highland Park Fish Camp. It did not take long for us to see a young otter hit and killed by one of these macho fishermen.
