Downtown Self Storage

We used Downtown Self Storage for a year while we were recently building a house. We thought we only needed 2 units, but when the moving crew was unloading we realized we needed 3. The friendly staff were able to accommodate our need on the spot. Our units were very clean and we never experienced any issues with security. I would highly recommend this storage facility.

I would NOT recommend this facility. You are supposed to be able to rent a unit online and get immediate access. We rented online on a Sunday afternoon, and 6 hours later we were finally able to get in the unit. The guy had to come down, when he finally answered the "after hours" phone.

We rented a spot to park a boat, and within two weeks of leaving it there, the trolling motor was stolen. Went to the office to report it, and the reply was "sorry there's nothing I can do about that". I was not expecting the storage facility to take any responsibility, I just wanted them to review the cameras. I inquired about that, and the guy seemed real perturbed and said he would but he didn't have time and he would call. I doubt he ever looked at anything.

Also beware, payments are due on the 1 of the month. BUT you actually have to pay by the LAST day of the month, or you will be automatically locked at a 12:00AM on the 1 day of the month until you pay. There is not "grace period" past the due date. If the 1 day lands on a day they are closed, make sure you pay either online beforehand or get by when they are open, or you will be locked out of the facility.

It's in a pretty shady part of town and not well kept. Find another unit. After having the trolling motor stolen and having the old man that runs the place make it obvious he did not care at all, and getting locked out on the first day of the month, we found another unit.

2/3 of everyone's things were GONE.



Me and 3 other Hendrix students decided to split a unit. We opted for a combination lock so we could get into the unit whenever we wished, independent of each other. We used it from December - August. In December, a couple of days after the unit was in use, there was no lock on the unit. I purchased TWO more for added security, with no help from Downtown Self Storage. One of us visited in May, and both locks were gone, and our bikes were gone. Downtown Self Storage did NOT reimburse us for a lock, and did not give us one of their locks for free. I was very disappointed.



The man we talked to was a much older man. I called him up in May after the second break-in, and he put a lock on the unit until August. In August, he said he did not remember when I called in May. He said he was old, and didn't have good memory. As if me or my friends cared -- our stuff was gone, forever. My yoga mat, my lamp shades, my friend's luggage with cash and checks in it, multiple boxes...



I gave him two dates, spanning around a month and a half, for him to check the camera footage. He said he would, and get back to me. He never did. I followed up in August, and he said the footage probably would have recorded over itself and he could not find it. Oh, what a helpful man, isn't he?





SO, there is no security at Downtown Self Storage. No one checks the security cameras. No one cares about your possessions, and they are not motivated to help you. Try Waller Security Storage instead.
