Overall

So my wife and I are expecting our first baby! Exciting right? Wrong, espicially if you visit the staff here at Harvard Vanguard Maternal Fetal Medicine in Burlington, Ma. I usually don't write reviews like this however, the service my wife and I received was so appalling the it could not go unnoticed.

I would like to start by saying that if you want instant access to the facility, show up late to your appointment. I watched as two couples and three other mothers, all claiming to be late (one couple was over an hour late) were called in before us. My wife and I were 20 minutes early to our 9am appointment and we're called in 15 minutes after 9am. We were told they were running late, so this was not a big deal for us.

When they called my wife's name, we both stood up and and followed a woman to the back. The woman not only didn't acknowledge me being there with my wife, she didn't introduce herself at all to either of us. Maybe she was having a bad day, which we all are entitled, but this was the most unfriendly person we have met. Her name was Julie and she was our ultrasound tech.

When we got into the exam room my wife let Julie know that we did not want to know the gender of the baby and that we wanted to be surprised. This seemed to annoy Julie as she snapped, "when we get to that point, I'll tell you to look away"

The only acknowledgement I received from Julie was when I attempted to take a picture of my wife laying on the table to capture her cuteness after seeing our baby for the first time in months. Julie told me I was unable to take pictures or video. When asked why, she said in a very annoyed tone, "for legal reasons".

You could cut the akwardness with a knife which made us afraid to ask any questions. It was all silence except for the intermittent dull call out of anatomy. "There's the feet, there's the leg, there's the arm" and so on. She did not point to the screen and did not make this fun or exciting for us at all. This being our first child, we have been looking for to this day since we made the appointment months ago. Maybe our expectations were too high. My wife did a great job trying to stay positive, cracking a joke here and there, but this did nothing to change the attitude of the humorless ice queen ultrasound tech named Julie. Sorry if that seems mean but it's accurate.

She was having trouble gaining certain views of the heart due to the position of the baby. I found humor in thinking that our baby could feel the negativity being emitted from the tech and was being uncooperative on purpose. Julie left the room to talk with the doctor and said that she would be right back.

Another woman entered the room minutes later. I had to ask her if she was the doctor as she also did not introduce herself. Her name was Dr. Mary Vadnais. She seemed a little more personable then Julie, but not by much. She was also having trouble find views of our baby's heart and said she wanted us to come back in a couple weeks to gain more views. She got up and said we could schedule an appointment with the front desk. As the doctor was walking out the door I asked her if we were done because she left my wife on the table with the paper clothing guard and all of the gel still on her belly. She said yes, "you can clean up and you're free to go" and left the room. She did not give my wife any type of wipe or wet towel. My wife had to clean "herself" off and throw away all of the used paper.

When we rescheduled our appointment at the front desk, we asked if there was a different location where we could conclude our exam. They gave us the location in Kenmore, hopefully there we will have a better experience.
