Electrocardiogram
A sleep study, or polysomnography (PSG), is a test we use to diagnose and treat sleep disturbances and disorders. The PSG is a recording, similar to an EKG or EEG, that monitors your breathing and breathing effort, heart rate and rhythm, oxygen levels in your blood, brain waves, leg and eye movements, and muscle activity. By monitoring all of these physiological signals, we can determine the quality of sleep you get each night.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Collins is an Interventional Cardiologist in private practice at Chesapeake Cardiac Care in Bowie, Maryland. She specializes in Clinical and Interventional Cardiology as well as Vascular Medicine. Dr. Collins earned her undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, RI, and her medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. She completed her Internal Medicine training at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, and her Cardiology fellowship at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center. She then went on to complete her Interventional Cardiology training at Washington Hospital Center.

Ultrasound
You will have a sedative and an anesthetic applied to your throat before the procedure to make you more comfortable. It will also ensure you do not gag or choke. A thin tube with an ultrasound-imaging device at its tip will be inserted into your esophagus. The transducer will then be able to obtain a clear image of your heart.

He is a native of India and completed his B.S. degree in Chemistry before coming to America. He finished the Nuclear Medicine Technology program at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and is a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technician (CNMT), and a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in the field of echocardiography. He has over 14 years of experience in echocardiography and over 18 years of experience in nuclear medicine technology.

Gangrene
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a progressive disease where blood vessels in the legs become clogged from fatty deposits. PAD can limit the blood flow to the arms, legs, kidneys, and other vital organs, which can cause a heart attack or stroke. The lack of blood flow results in the absence of oxygen-rich blood, which can cause nerve and tissue damage. Patients who have PAD in their legs may experience cramping, numbness, unexplained leg fatigue, or pain which makes it difficult to walk. Infections can also happen very easily due to the lack of blood in the legs. If the lack of blood continues for a prolonged period, muscles and tissue in the legs may die. Severe clogging can lead to gangrene, and in some extreme cases, it may require amputation.
