Pediatric Care
Dr. Shi joined Pacific Family Medicine in Newport in 2008. She is an active member of the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Medical Association. Dr. Shi is board certified in Family Practice by the American Board of Family Medicine. Her particular interests include preventive medicine, pediatrics, and women’s health. She can speak competent medical Spanish.
Primary Care
In life-threatening situations, when every minute counts, call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room. Once there, inform the emergency room staff of your health plan and Primary Care Physician (PCP) so that your physician can help coordinate your care. If you are outside the Orange County / Long Beach area, contact your health plan.
Family Practice
Dr. Karen Kim graduated with a degree in Biology from UC Irvine in 1994 and attended medical school at Midwestern University in Chicago. She then completed her internship and residency, and was a Family Medicine Chief Resident at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California.
Emergency Care
You and your doctor can manage many urgent care situations by phone. However, when a face-to-face evaluation is required, your doctor will refer you to an appropriate facility. This authorization and referral from your PCP will facilitate insurance coverage for urgent medical treatment at those facilities. Although PFM is open a full 5 days a week to serve your needs, a board-certified Hoag physician will be available to assist you if you have an urgent need after hours or on a weekend. Please remember that this is for urgent needs only. No routine referrals or medication refills will be done after hours.

Gastroenterology
Tamara has worked in Family Practice, Urgent Care, Gastroenterology, and currently works for Greater Newport Physician’s Home Visit Program for geriatric patients. She joined Pacific Family Medicine in 2019 and is excited to be back in Family Practice.

Mental Health
C3. Right to Inspect and Copy. You have the right to inspect and have a copy your health information, with limited exceptions. To access your medical information, you must submit a written request detailing what information you want access to and whether you want to inspect it or get a copy of it. We will charge a reasonable fee, as allowed by California law. We may deny your request under limited circumstances. If we deny your request to access your child’s records because we believe allowing access would be reasonably likely to cause substantial harm to your child, you will have a right to appeal our decision. If we deny your request to access your psychotherapy notes, you will have the right to have them transferred to another mental health professional.
