Ultrasound
Fine-Needle Aspiration: During fine-needle aspiration – which may be done during an office visit – a thin, hollow needle is inserted into the lump and any fluid or tissue cells are removed (aspirated). Mammography
Positron emission mammography (PEM) is a relatively new and advanced application of positron emission tomography or PET scanning, which for decades has been helping doctors diagnose and treat disease. PEM is a specialized and improved form of PET for imaging breasts. Unlike large PET systems that can scan a person’s entire body, PEM systems are small and concentrate their imaging abilities on a single breast.
Chemotherapy
The patient with breast cancer is often treated with all modalities of therapy available today – surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. We will make an individualized plan for you while providing emotional support for you and your family throughout the entire process.
Radiation Therapy
DCIS is often discovered as microcalcifications – tiny calcium deposits that appear as very small, white specks on mammograms. DCIS is fairly common now comprising ~25% of all breast cancers. If left untreated, 20 to 25 percent of the women will go on to get invasive cancer in about 10 years. Treatment usually involves removal of all the DCIS followed by radiation therapy in most women. Some women have such extensive DCIS that they need a mastectomy but they can get reconstruction at the same time. In some patients, the addition of Tamoxifen has been shown to reduce the chance of recurrence and is therefore added to their therapy.

General Surgery
Dr. Beitsch graduated third in his class at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his General Surgery Residency at UT Southwestern during which he completed a National Cancer Institute fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He completed his Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California. He trained with the father of sentinel lymph node biopsy, Dr. Donald Morton, and brought this innovative technique back to Dallas. Dr. Beitsch has received ASBS-certification in breast ultrasound.

Breast Reduction
Breast size: Women with large breasts may have noncyclic breast pain related primarily to the size of their breasts. This type of breast discomfort is typically accompanied by neck, shoulder and back pain. Some studies have shown that breast reduction surgery can reduce these symptoms. Breast surgery itself, however, also causes pain, which may linger after the incisions have healed.

Breast Surgery
Anatomical factors: The cause of noncyclic breast pain is likely to be anatomical rather than hormonal, triggered by breast cysts, breast trauma, prior breast surgery or other factors localized to the breast. Noncyclic breast pain may also originate outside the breast – in the chest wall, muscles, joints or heart – and radiate to the breast.

Skin Cancer
Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer in fair-skinned people. It usually shows up on the face, early, scalp, neck or upper body. Basal Cell Carcinoma may have slightly raised edges with a crusty, indented center. This type of skin cancer grows very slowly and usually does not spread to other parts of the body. It is usually treated by removing the tumor (with surgery).

Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common type of skin cancer in fair-skinned people. It is twice as common in men as in women. Like other skin cancers, squamous cell carcinoma is caused by too much exposure to UV rays from the sun or indoor tanning booths. Squamous cell carcinoma is slow-growing cancer but it can spread to other parts of the body. Because this cancer can spread, it is important to treat it as early as possible through surgery and/or radiation therapy. Lesions may appear as a bump or scaly red patch on the face, neck, arms, scalp, ear, lips, or mouth.
