Based in Florida, the Port of Palm Beach District is an independent special taxing district and works as a subdivision of the state of Florida. It is one of the busiest container ports in the continental United States. The port district is operating under Florida Sunshine Laws and covers a land area of more than 970 square miles. It is governed by a board of commissioners elected by the voters within the district. The Port of Palm Beach District administration is overseen by an executive director and staff of over 45 full-time employees. In addition to intermodal capacity, it is a major nodal point for the shipment of bulk sugar, molasses, cement, utility fuels, water, produce and breakbulk items. The Port of Palm Beach District has slips, marginal wharves and ramps for a total of more than 5,200 linear feet of berthing space.
