The majority of dental implant procedures are performed in office with a local anesthesia or intravenous sedation. During your zirconia implant procedure, Dr. Mark will place the base of the dental implant into your gum line where the tooth is missing. A temporary crown will be placed on the implant during your healing time. Between your procedure and follow-up visit with Dr. Mark, your gums and jaw will reach ideal osseointegration with your zirconia implant(s). Once your jaw and gum line have cohesively and securely bonded with your ceramic dental implants, you will return to Dr. Mark’s office to receive your permanent crown.
Bridges
Zirconia implants host a variety of positive features, especially when compared to traditional tooth or teeth replacement methods like dentures or dental bridges. Dentures and dental bridges look and feel less natural. Dentures also require specialized maintenance, creams, pastes, and powders. Since dentures are removable, they have the possibility to shift, loosen, or detach during your day, which can cause embarrassment.

Restorative Dentistry
Before the immediate extraction & immediate implant procedure was developed, patients needed the extraction socket to heal before an implant could be placed in the space provided. This healing process takes approximately ten to twelve weeks, but thanks to the constantly advancing field of restorative dentistry, waiting until the extraction site heals is no longer necessary in certain cases. Dental bone is naturally pre-programmed to fill an extraction socket, so by placing the dental implant immediately following extraction, the implant is simultaneously anchored with the bone and healed into the socket from this natural healing process.

Root Canal Treatment
Occasionally, a root canal procedure will not be sufficient to heal a tooth and surgery is required. The most common surgery used to save damaged teeth is called an apicoectomy or root-end resection. An apicoectomy procedure can be used to locate fractures or hidden canals that do not appear on x-rays, but still manifest pain in the tooth. Damaged root surfaces or the surrounding bone may also be treated with this particular type of procedure.
Apicoectomy
During Apicoectomy an incision is made in the gum tissue to expose the bone and surrounding inflamed tissue. The damaged tissue is removed along with the end of the root tip. A root-end filling is then placed to prevent re-infection of the root and the gum is sutured. Over the next couple of months, the bone naturally heals around the root and full function is restored.

Dentures
Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low heeled shoes. Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
Overdentures
A single prosthesis (crown) is used to replace one missing tooth – each prosthetic attaches to its own implant. A partial prosthesis (fixed bridge) can replace two or more teeth and may require two or three implants. A complete dental prosthesis (fixed bridge) replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. The number of implants varies depending upon which type of complete prosthesis (removable or fixed) is recommended. A removable prosthesis (overdenture) attaches to a bar or ball-in-socket attachments, whereas a fixed prosthesis is permanent solution and removable only by a dentist.

Maxillofacial Surgery
She then completed a one year internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center and a four year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Christiana Care Health Systems in Wilmington, Delaware in June 2009.
