First, call the PCP’s office to make sure he is still accepting new patients and accepts your insurance. If those two steps check out, you can book your appointment with the receptionist. Note that some insurance plans will require you to keep them updated on your primary care physician. If your plan has this requirement, be sure to notify your insurance company after you make your appointment to ensure proper coverage. Also, please call your previous PCP and request that they send your medical records to your new PCP.

Colonoscopy
Colorectal cancer is the third-most common cancer affecting men and women in the United States. But it’s also one of the most treatable if it’s caught early, and doing so drastically increases your five-year survival rate. The five-year survival rate for colorectal cancer is about 92%, and regular colonoscopy exams are the primary factor in the declining fatality rate of colorectal cancer. Precancerous polyps can be removed during your procedure, and biopsies can be taken that will allow us to determine if cancer has already developed.
Electrocardiogram
Federal regulations designate certain “wellness” visits and tests to be “at no cost to the patient”, i.e. no copay or deductible. Annual physicals are included in that list, as well as screening mammograms and colonoscopies. Unfortunately, the same does not apply for tests and procedures commonly associated with an annual wellness visit. Nor does it apply for tests done for “diagnostic” reasons, i.e. you have symptoms. For example, almost all labs ordered as part of a physical will track to your deductible. Same with common office procedures such as EKGs. If you’re concerned about your deductible, PLEASE INFORM YOUR PHYSICIAN DURING YOUR VISIT! Your physician can then have an informed discussion about the pros/cons of skipping certain tests that may incur a cost to you.

Immigration physicals aren’t quite the same as regular annual physicals. We are required to test for certain communicable diseases such as tuberculosis and syphilis, which means you will need to make 2 visits to the office within a few days of each other in order to complete your test results. You may also need some vaccinations and possibly an Xray.

Ultrasound testing allows our physicians to see images of the body’s organs. One of our highly skilled, specially trained technicians will apply gel to the ultrasound area and move a small, hand-held device (transducer) back and forth across the target area. The transducer emits high-frequency sound waves that are inaudible to the human ear, which then echo off the internal structures of the body and return to the transducer. These echoes are recorded and transformed into video or still images for review by a doctor.

Typical preparation for a Nuclear Medicine test involves restricting food intake for at least six hours, as well as several medication restrictions. Heed your doctor’s specific instructions to ensure your test is successful and no time is wasted. Your testing time may vary, but you should anticipate spending several hours at the testing facility.
Mammography
Using a specialized x-ray technique, our technicians can produce images of the inner breast tissue. This allows our doctors to identify cysts, calcifications and tumors and is currently the most efficient method of detecting breast cancer early.
Computed Tomography
A CT (computed tomography) scan involves taking multiple X-ray images from various angles and compiling them using a computer. This produces a clear, detailed view of the internal structures of the body, allowing doctors to diagnose diseases earlier in their progression.
