Preventive Care

Dental Care
Routine surgeries we perform for small animals include spays and neuters, biopsies, tumor removals, dental extractions, small-tissue procedures, and more. By using state-of-the-art tools and monitoring equipment, we keep your pet safe and comfortable during surgical procedures.
Vaccination
We encourage pet owners to bring their animals in at least once a year for routine examinations. During these appointments, we will provide ear-to-tail evaluations and any necessary vaccinations. Our goal is to help prevent diseases and health conditions in your pet, and to provide early diagnosis and treatment for any that do arise.
Comprehensive Examination
Dr. Perkins has practiced farm animal and small animal medicine in Maine since graduating from Cornell University in 1983. She is focusing on dogs and cats at our clinic, providing a range of services from routine wellness exams, scheduled surgeries, and internal medicine work-ups to specialized surgeries such as tumor, anal sac, and thyroid gland removals as well as gastrointestinal tract surgery. Dr. Perkins and her husband live on a small farm in Leeds. They have two children, Walker and Emily. Dr. Perkins spends her free time caring for the animals at home including two dogs, four cats, a small flock of sheep, a small herd of beef cattle, laying hens, and broilers. Dr. Perkins also enjoys gardening, hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, and ski-joring. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm in keeping your four-legged best friends healthy!

Veterinary Surgery
Karen joined the Annabessacook Veterinary Clinic family in the summer of 2007 and has been focusing on small animal surgery, dentistry, and ultrasonic imaging. Exotic animals, such as rabbits, ferrets, and pocket pets, are a group of animals she also enjoys working with. She is a 2006 graduate of Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and grew up in Maryland, but she has been relishing the beautiful region of central Maine. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Lipovsky can be found performing in or watching a performance in Cumston Hall, or singing with the Maine music Society in Lewiston, kayaking, or jogging along the winding side roads with her husband, John. Her home is kept busy with her 16.5-year-old dog, Butternut, who doesn’t know she’s old enough to drive!

We have six ambulatory vehicles which are fully equipped for dentistry and digital radiography, as well as routine and emergency procedures.
Dental Radiology
Dental care is just as important for animals as it is for humans. During your petâ€™s checkup, we will examine their teeth and gums to determine if there is any developing decay or gum disease. During routine dental cleanings dental x-rays are performed to diagnose any health issues occuring in areas of the mouth not visible throughout a visual exam.

Small Animal Vet
Dr. Kelsey Houston is a graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island. She is a Maine native and obtained her bachelors degree from the University of Maine. She has a special interest in equine preventative medicine but will see anything you throw her way. You may see her on both sides of the clinic, although she claims that she â€˜only plays a small animal vet on tv.â€™ She is currently furthering her education in veterinary acupuncture. In her spare time she enjoys being with her family and friends at their camp and blueberry fields, being on or in the water, and cuddling with her two cats and dog.
