Overall

Most people who work there are very nice and helpful. My husband and I have bought several cockatiels there, the most recent one having an eye infection, however we took her to the exotic vet and was given medication and it cleared up quickly. We’re looking to getting her a friend, which would happen a lot sooner if the prices wouldn’t have drastically increased over the previous 7 years. The first one we got was less than $100, and they just keep increasing. We paid $300 for our albino one and when I went back to try to find “her” a companion they had gone up again by about $50. By the time my husband and I are to afford another they will likely have increased again. I used to buy these really awesome unique seat belt style 1 1/2 inch wide dog collars that I loved but sadly cannot find anywhere in Mobile and now have to order from Amazon. It would be great if they would start selling those again, they were great.

Worst return policy

Staff was very knowledgeable. However, after 3 days of owning one of the gerbils we bought with complete kit became very ill. I called that night manager said to bring it in and they would exchange it. Living 45 minutes away this was an inconvenience but I felt very bad for the poor thing. The next morning it was still hanging on. I loaded it up then my son and I headed off to Mobile. When we arrived the girl at the front, Rebecca I think, had a horrible attitude. She pattronized me about the state of the gerbil as if I had mistreated it. I explained to her I followed all the instructions given to me 3 days ago and the other gerbil they had sold us was thriving. She rolled her eyes so far back in her head I was sure she was going to faint. I found that amusing, seeing as she had been posted on YouTube as the face of small animals there at B&B. After that she scrambled to the back and came back out saying we could exchange the sick one. We decided to just keep the one without a cage mate due to the fact there would be no guarantee of the new gerbil fighting with the established one, which I assumed before our trip over there. We decided just to settle with a store credit. The cost of the gerbil was $12.99. So I assumed that it being just three days prior that that would be the rate of exchange, boy was I surprised! The amount they refunded us was $5.50!! Absolutely ridiculous!! Not only was my six year old son devastated that his gerbil had became so ill with only a few days but also he had been ripped off! He searched the store over for something decent for that amount, with my help, all he could settle on were two tiny squeaky balls. Needless to say he was saddened by his experience and I was severly annoyed. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They are overpriced and in the end a total rip off.

Overall
Great Selection- poor service

I live in Gulfport, about 65 miles or so away. After hearing about the large selection you have, we thought it would be great to check it out, something different than Petsmart where we normally go. So the wife and I drove over there today with her father who came in from out of the country to purchase some aquarium plants, fish, and to get some info on a hair algae issue we seem to have sometimes in our 55g.

I just wanted to say my experience there would be comparable to going somewhere to eat and myself having to 1-ask for a waiter, a drink, a menu, and meal. You had a great place, huge selection, etc but to be honest the customer service was non existent to be nice. Not sure if this is how it normally is. I try to give kudos when I can since I know some folks deserve it, and feedback the rest of the time.

We started at the small animal dept where I believe Rebecca greeted us. OUT of the "entire store" for the whole +hour we were there, she was the only one that even acknowledged us.

No one asked us how we were.

No one asked us could they help us find anything.

No one asked us could they show us anything. Nothing.

This was primarily there in the aquatics section and I do appreciate the time Rebecca took to show us the small animals and snake.

Most of the time was spent in the aquarium section though. There must have been "at least" 4-5 guys and one girl" in that section and no one even approached us. Finally near the last section (farthest to the right if looking to the rear from the front), a young black guy (did not get his name) finally asked us if we needed something. There was another guy there with him on a ladder and after having been there now over 30 minutes already, I told him he was the first person to even say something to us, greet us, offer help etc, and so I told him I felt. I also told him that at that time I was not considering a purchase there because of this, and we would buy somewhere else but would continue looking. The guy on the ladder heard me tell him this and said nothing, the black gentleman, just smiled and said ok and walked off. Hmmmmm I think if that would have been me and a customer told me that, I would have gone to get someone, perhaps dept mgr. But at this time, I guess that was my responsibility.

Anyhow I walked off to look for a test kit and another guy said hello and could he help. I also explained to him how I felt about the service and how having been there almost 45 minutes now at this point that we were fixing to leave and I would buy somewhere else. I saw him go over and tell someone else what I said, and NEITHER offered to come and talk to myself about it or rectify the situation. I have honestly never seen anything like it today. It was like most of them did not care, or were too bothered to help. Perhaps this is not how it normally is, but perception is everything.

I would think that with the economy the way it is, gas headed higher and discretionary spending down that most businesses would be doing everything they could to exemplify the products and services they offer. Even when we left, the person at the checkout desk did not even say thanks for coming, hope to see you again, have a nice day or anything.
