During a treatment, ink particles are targeted by laser energy and are broken into tiny fragments that your body eventually absorbs. Multiple treatments may be required since all tattoos vary in the type of ink used, colors, and depth of application. Black and red inks are generally the easiest to break-up, blues and greens are moderate, and light colors like yellow are the hardest to break-up. Surrounding tissue is largely unaffected, but not entirely spared, so tattoo removal is typically uncomfortable for patients but numbing cream can be applied.
