We hired Albright Remodeling to raise portions of the roof of our Cape Cod home and add a bedroom and bathroom. I would never recommend this company to anyone. The owner was rude, condescending and snide any chance he got and refused to ever discuss what was going on with our project. He treated me like a dumb female who couldn't possible understand the construction world. Even though I could have done the job better myself! He didn't share the name of his subcontractors or supply the proper proof of insurance I now know was required.

It began well, Jim Albright talked a good game and we were impressed with him at the beginning. It started going downhill shortly after the project began as he started to complain about the requirements by the bank, even though the details were clearly laid out and agreed to in advance. He didn't like the way he was paid and that he couldn't increase the cost during the project.

He did not communicate weekly as agreed, so we never knew what was going on when. He selected doors, windows, and other finishes without consulting us. He told us that the items we did select could save us money if we selected less expensive items. We later found out that we didn't get to keep the difference, he did, which is why he selected such cheap items without involving us. He made many bigger decisions without consulting us as well, including installing electric heat in the two new rooms instead of running ductwork as specified in the contract with the bank. when we confronted him about it he insisted that the only way to get ductwork up to those rooms was to go through support beams which was not possible. We continued to have an issue with that decision throughout the project so in the end we involved the town inspector in a meeting at which time Jim Albright stated that the issue was that the furnace couldn't handle the extra output, something he never said before. That was a new excuse so after some arguing and his refusal to put any of that in writing he agreed to allow the town inspector to bring in a third part to look at the heat and see if the third party supported his claim. Once the project was complete the third party heating professional returned with the town inspector. This third party confirmed that running the ductwork would have been easy and not interfere with support beams. He also confirmed that the furnace could easily handle the extra output and believes it came down to laziness and cost. Our contract with Albright and the bank clearly stated that if he overestimated the cost of the work that he still had to do it, but at his own expense. So he scammed us because he didn't want to pay the extra money to do the job he agreed to do. It is important to us to have the ductwork so we can get central air installed in the entire house (not all rooms but one). The third party has given us an estimate of $245 to do the ductwork properly, the way it was supposed to be done according to our contract. The other major issue was time. The bank gave him 6 weeks after the financing was approved to complete the project since that is how long he said it would take. Instead of asking for and receiving an extension at no cost, which the bank offered to do, he rushed the project and the finishing work was atrocious. Sanding wasn't done before painting, patchwork is visible all over the walls, the faucet in the new shower is crooked, and the seal around the skylight is sloppy, just to name a very few of the issues with the finished project. Now our roof is leaking along where they attached the new construction to the existing roof, yet he is insisting that isn't really where the leak is so he doesn't have to fix it. We are currently in contact with a third party to come look at the roof.
