Portia has been serving me for years and she is awesome! She is very knowledgable and efficient. My hair always looks amazing when I leave her salon. She is very personable and I'm not sitting in the salon all day. She's a great stylist to serve professional business women promoting healthy hair!!

I've been going to Hair Is She for years and I can't speak more highly about the salon, my stylist Portia, and my overall satisfaction with her services. The quality of the service is outstanding - I have yet to find a place or stylist who tops it. My hair is healthy AND looks great. Another thing that I love is how my time is valued. Lengthy waits are never a problem. I'm usually in and out in an hour. Do I need to say more?

My hair has been chemical-free since June 2000 and have been “Happily Nappy” ever since. Despite my love for my natural, I sometimes desired a temporary change where I could wear my hair in a “straightened” style – all the while leaving my natural texture unaltered. I went to a couple of hair “stylists” and got some very disappointing results – hair that was “straightened”, but look dry, dull, and lifeless. I had all but given up on the notion until a good friend of mine recommended Portia’s services. I decided to take the plunge once again and see what she was about. At the time, I was also transitioning my daughter’s hair away from Creamy Crack (I know….what in the WORLD was I thinking putting that stuff in her hair in the FIRST place). The resulting look and feel of both our hair (mine fully natural, my daughter’s “transitioning” and in-between) was PHENOMENAL. My hair type typically has a difficult time not sucking up all of the moisture in the air and “reverting”. After Portia’s skilled hands, my hair was having NONE of that. I had even gone through two “misty” days without a hitch. On the 10th day after my “silk-out”, my hair still looked so jazzy, I snapped a photo of it and texted it to family and friends. Unfortunately, I generally don’t worry much about umbrellas since I just let my natural hair do what it does. This umbrella-neglect is the ONLY reason my style didn’t last more than 10 days - right after I snapped my picture, I got caught in a full-fledged rainstorm heading home. The health and thickness of my daughter’s transitioning hair shined through after Portia did her magic. After our first, post-Portia at-home “wash-n-twist”, my daughter’s hair was more manageable with less tangles and discomfort. My hair (thankfully) coiled right back up into its normal watch spring-sized pattern allowing me to return to my every day wash-n-twist routine – only this time with added shine, better twist memory, and WAY more movement (woohoo!). As an added benefit, the knowledge that Portia imparted to me during our visit on how to care for both my daughter’s and my hair helped me to not only explore more techniques for natural styles at home, but also helped me to fully transition my daughter’s hair to its current, healthy, 100% natural state. I have not been able to find any stylist that can straighten my natural hair without causing heat damage or putting gunky hair spray to hold the curls.
