first visit was excellent it was very fresh tasty
second visit I noticed the hamburger buns. were different. not as flavorful very bland. tried with onion rings they were soaking grease. or apple pie but I got a peach pie instead? the server seems to be built around speed not accuracy.
third is it went there early before lunch started hoping for freshness. alas on the hamburger meat was not fresh off the grill like I was hoping...pre cooked kinda cold. could have been left over from the day before for all I know?? tried the fries they were pre cooked set up on the counter to fill orders quickly even know there was hardly anybody there?? they were also very greasy they probably went right from the fryer to the serving tray at the pass. with no stop for grease removal.seems like the food is setup for speed not freshness. so this restaurant went from 4 stars three stars to two stars.

The Varsity is like something out of Happy Days but without the fake fifties kitsch. This is THE place in Athens to grab a burger, fries or hot dog. Slaw dogs, chili dogs and glorified bacon cheeseburgers are not healthy by any means. But it's a fun place to bring the kids (TVs showing classic cartoons) or out of town visitors when you need a grease fix.

not the healthiest food for you but definetely good every now and then
