Replacing a Single Missing Tooth When a single tooth is missing, the two most common treatment options are the traditional tooth supported bridge and an implant supported crown. When a traditional bridge is used to replace a missing tooth, the adjacent teeth are cut down into peg shapes in order to fit the cemented bridge in place.

A removable prosthesis, such as a partial denture, actually accelerates the bone resorption (deterioration) process that occurs naturally when teeth are lost or removed. In addition, the clasps that hold the partial denture in place put significant pressure on the natural teeth they hook onto, loosening them and in many cases, eventually leading to the loss of those teeth. Most patients with partial dentures state that they are uncomfortable and that they rarely wear them.

Using comprehensive facial x-rays and video stills, he can show you how your bite will be improved and even give you an idea of how you will look after surgery. This helps you understand the surgical process, the extent of the treatment prescribed, and to see the benefits of orthognathic surgery.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Robert M. Svarney Jr. completed his undergraduate work at The State University of New York at Binghamton in Biology. Dr. Svarney attended the first dental college founded in the United States, the University of Maryland College of Dental Surgery in Baltimore. During his senior year, Dr. Svarney was the only student awarded the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Dental Student Award of Excellence.
Bone Grafting
Dr. Beaty regularly pursues extensive, ongoing yearly continuing education in all specialty areas of practice including Implants, Bone Grafting, Soft Tissue Grafting, Anesthesia, Facial Reconstruction and Dentoalveolar Surgery.
