Primary Care
Abdominoplasty is also known as a tummy tuck. This surgery removes excess skin and fat from the abdominal area and tightens the abdominal muscle giving the abdomen a much flatter appearance. Abdominoplasty combined with diet and exercise rewards the patient with a wonderful result. Abdominoplasty is not designed for patients to lose weight, but some patients do experience some weight loss after this procedure. Abdominoplasty can also be done with Vaser liposuction of the flank areas for a greater result. Patients who are 40 years of age or older will need a medical clearance from your primary care physician before surgery.

Breast augmentation surgery is performed to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breasts by placing an implant behind the breast tissue. Some women choose augmentation because she feels her breasts are too small in comparison to the rest of her body. Ultrasound
Dr. Mathers uses the VASER System of ultrasound energy to break up and emulsify fat, leaving surrounding tissue – such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue – relatively intact. General Surgery
Dr. Mathers grew up on a farm west of Enid, Oklahoma. He attended Phillips University for his undergraduate degree, and Oklahoma State University, College of Osteopathic Surgery for medical school. He completed 5 years of general surgery training followed by 2 years in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency program. Additionally, he completed a one year fellowship in Microsurgery.
Reconstructive Surgery
He is board certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgeons. He completes numerous hours in continuing education every year, keeping up on the latest developments in medical innovations. Dr. Mathers is an active member in many medical associations among them the Tulsa Surgical Society, and Oklahoma Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He served on the board of the American Red Cross and was chairman for two years.

Breast Augmentation
We use the infra-mammary approach for placing smooth saline or silicone implants in a sub-muscular position. This approach is used by 90% of plastic surgeons in breast augmentation. The advantages in using the infra-mammary approach include easier placement for the surgeon, well hidden scars, decreases potential problems in loss of nipple sensation, and has the overall fewest number of complications compared to other techniques. In addition, post operatively, there is less pain with the infra-mammary approach. For instance, a physician can be trained and certified in OB/GYN, General Surgery, Ears, Nose, and Throat and even Oral Surgery but also perform cosmetic surgery. To verify the prospective plastic surgeon’s credentials, one should ask direct questions: is the surgeon board certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and does he/she hold surgical staff privileges at area hospitals to perform the recommended procedures. If the surgeon does not have the proper certification, he will not be credentialed within this specific category at major hospitals and patients should be wary. Lastly, one of the best ways to choose a plastic surgeon is word of mouth. Dr. Mathers does not advertise and 90% of his referrals are from previous patients.
